Roll up, roll up, roll up for AWR’s eighth start of the year competition. It’s also the thirteenth major competition in total and the thirty-second (!) competition of AWR’s history, if you include all the various assignments and challenges.
We’re building up a grand old history. Pre-Folly, AWR had a two tiered competition. Sekot took out the first ever victory of the main competition, beating Lilam by a tiny amount if I remember correctly. While the second tier competition was a revelation with so many writers surprising us. Dylek won and Manny Nhaims came second. Both of them have long since vanished.
Since then we’ve ran a host of Cups, Arenas and even a team competition. While there’s been a slight pattern to them, there have also been some great writers going far. Drall made it all the way to the final of the inaugural Arena competition. Allya, for a time, became a constant finalist. Reffy broke the Admin’s reign in the 2014 Arena by winning it. And Inkdrinker has become a competition mainstay in the last two years.
This year, we’re doing this slightly backwards. Usually, we pick a competition format and then open the call for writers. However, I don’t know how many people we’re going to get and the competition turnout might affect which competition we’re actually going to do.
So basically, as of now, the only information for this is:
- We’re starting in January; and
- This has been awesome so many times before, so why don’t you jump in this time?
If you want to write, post and I’ll add you to the list. Once we get an idea of turnout, we can decide what competition we can do. I’m leaning toward an Arena this year.
If we do the Arena, we’ll need an organiser. If we do a Cup, we’ll need a judge or two.
