Get excited, people. Let's make this as worthy as the old Monthly Assignments back in the day.

Oh, Cup Competitors. I've pushed the deadline out far enough that you should have time to do this after the competition is finished. But make sure to write for the World Cup first!

Theseus and the Minotaur Urban Fantasy Oh Mr. Rowland, you tempt me so! EDIT: Why do all the pictures of women hiding behind an ornamental fan have watermarks on them!?

My spring break starts this evening.
So, no promises or anything, but I -love- the topic here and am going to have my first free time in two months. On top of the fact that I'm feeling a little left behind with the admins and the rest of AWR starting to write more often again... and I haven't written anything here in, what, over a year?

Theseus and the Minotaur Urban Fantasy Oh Mr. Rowland, you tempt me so! Originally, urban fantasy was going to be the only genre as well. But I wanted to provide people with choice. I actually think space opera may be a more natural fit for the topic, but I know you had "minotaur where the city is the labyrinth" in your head for a long time. So, no promises or anything, but I -love- the topic here and am going to have my first free time in two months. On top of the fact that I'm feeling a little left behind with the admins and the rest of AWR starting to write more often again It's worked as planned. Excellent.

It's worked as planned. Excellent. I'll believe it when I see it.

Then you better write something, sir. Working on it actually. Hopefully I'll finish it out by the end of the weekend. No promises though; working on my novel and a potential KotR entry simaltaneously so it's slowing me down. However I'm thinking the King entry might help me with my idea for this one. Urban and Rural Fantasy are very similar after all; hell the only real difference is in the setting if you really think about it.

Oh yeah, no need to rush. You have a good 20+ days still to go.

The Labyrinth as a superdense cluster of black holes, positioned there by alien Precursers to entrap a dangerous entity.
Go go go.

One of the things I thought about with these genres is that each has a different strength in regard to the myth. For me, urban fantasy and the labyrinth seems obvious. But incorporating the white sails part of the myth would seem more fitting for a space opera. Meanwhile, making the minotaur a central character could be interesting for a gothic horror.
I'm looking forward to people proving me completely wrong.

So anybody's made a start yet?
Are people sticking heavily to the myth or are you using it very loosely?

I started a Space Opera - but I'm starting to think I should go Urban Fantasy... not sure yet.

So anybody's made a start yet? Are people sticking heavily to the myth or are you using it very loosely? Doing a thing that is loosely related to the monthly madness but won't be posted in the competition thread ... So, yes?
