So after much hype I think I may have to pull out. I'm not going to be making a satisfying ending by the due date nor will I be able to edit. So, at the moment, all I have is a very long and well written outline. I don't think its really fitting with the theme anyway. Instead, what I'm going to do is keep working on it. I've started to become interested in publishing something, so I may use this as an opportunity to get my writing out into the world. I dunno. I just know that it no longer really fits with the theme and what I will submit will just be kinda bad. Doesn't look like anyone else may be submitting anyway, so it's cool. If you want some feedback on the work-in-progress or the finished product when you're finished, give me a yell. |

I tried to finish it but I'm contorting the ending in a way that doesn't make much sense so I had to stop. Its at 15k words and I'm already looking to write a whole new beginning and flesh out the characters. I may finish what I have and return to it to redo it from the bottom up. We shall see. edit: 15k isn't a lot but its more than I've ever written... |

... I, uh, wasn't actually intending on posting a prompt tomorrow even if this was a resounding success since we've got the team competition coming up in a couple of weeks.
I think we can say that Monthly Challenges/Assignments are dead. They don't work. I may look at doing the old multi-round Challenge with weekly rounds again.

I am in a bit of a panic right now. It has been a long time since I have visited A Writer's Relcuse and I doubt anyone remembers me even being here. However, I have written a story for this competition, but I cannot figure out how to submit it. With less than 20 hours to go I would appreciate anyone who could give me directions or direct me toward directions that tell me how to submit my entry.

I went ahead and posted where I stopped. Its clearly unfinished, unedited, and kinda really bad. I'm not really expecting an indepth review, nor do I really want it since it'll all probably end up changing. I just want to put something out there to get a general impression of the plot, maybe as a proof of concept more than anything else.
I've been dabbling in a little more...romance in my short stories and wanted to draw it out, focusing on the themes of Theseus and Ariadne with my own style and interpretation of that story. My plan for the ending was for Tide to meet Des on the eventual destination, the Minotaur I had yet to decide whether it was going to be Des or going to be the Company. Probably Des, and instead of killing the Minotaur he takes up the Minotaur's cause.
It all really doesn't make much sense and there's large holes in the beginning that could be filled. Its probably where I'm going to start next instead of creating an ending. Maybe just rewrite from scratch. I'm not sure. If there's interest in this ending then I may go through with it. Hell, I"ll probably go through with it anyway just to see what works and what doesn't.
I really like the concept of monthly assignments because I need prompts otherwise my original ideas run out of steam. I don't know why this particular story ran off the tracks and became something more, but it did. Otherwise I'd have something more presentable.

I don't know if I'll make the deadline guys. To make a long story short, loved the topic, but didn't really get the urge to write for it vs. the other projects I'm working on. Still in love with the idea of monthly assignments making a comeback, just had different priorities this month writing wise I guess.

I've got a big paper due tomorrow, so I won't be able to finish tonight, but after that I'm free to write and could get it done likely by mid-day Thursday. I'm really not sure if the story fits into a particular genre of the three, but it certainly fits the theme. |
