THE ARENA Welcome writers, to the Arena, the newest competition to grace the AWR Boards. And as always, it has some similarities and differences to previous competitions.
The Arena is a pure knock-out competition, designed to pit writers against each other until only one is left standing. Like the AWR Cup, an Arena Match consists of two writers, however after that rule, it's a whole new ball game.
An Arena Match consists of two writers battling it out for the chance to survive to the next round. Each match is given a topic, but not a single word prompt or a genre. Instead, the writers are given a beginning to a story that they must finish. These beginnings are written by anybody on AWR who wishes to do so, from now on.
Judging is distinctly different too from our usual system. Every member of AWR (except the writers themselves) can vote, although their vote is only counted if they have offered feedback. Whoever has the most votes go onto the next round, the loser dies...
Wait... I mean go out of the competition.

Pure knockout system, where the masses vote -and- give feedback.
Sounds like a plan to me.

I approve.
When's it going to be? Hopefully next month. Little busy the rest of this one.

One might worry about it becoming a popularity contest ... but otherwise: cool, new, exciting and a lot of fun - I would imagine

One might worry about it becoming a popularity contest I doubt that. I kind of think we're better than that -- optimism, perhaps, but I have trouble thinking of anyone who would win over anyone else for 'popularity'. Anyway, yeah, even if this does start next month, best start sign-ups and such as soon as possible.

Yeah, I think this'll likely be the excuse for me to get back into writing some.
I'll write.

I don't think it would even be a problem but yeah! Writing!
