Hm. If this starts in about 2 weeks then certainly - I'm currently drowning in finals-prep. If it does start then, however - I will fight!

It'll likely start on the 1st or 2nd of June.

Hey, Dyl, I -did- almost win one AWR Cup before! Got all the way to the end, so I think you should join! Never know what might happen!

It upsets me that I have already managed to lose the respect of people on this forum. v.v I need a hug. If it makes you feel any better, it's not something I just give by default, it's something you gain. So you really haven't lost anything. That's the closest to "hug" I do.

... Don't you have a sheep lying around somewhere for that purpose? BOOM! Man, you live in New Zealand. I wouldn't break out the inappropriate sheep jokes if I were you. I'm British though, so I use inappropriate sheep jokes against Kiwis and Aussies. I don't discriminate. Or and the Welsh. Lulz, the Welsh.

Screw it, unless this ends up at a time when I can't write for time reasons. I guess I'll give it a shot. Need a new reason to hate my writing and everyone's opinion of it anyway, been spoiled after a many month break.

Two weeks from now, you say?
Put me on the 'possible' list, I may or may not be able to make the commitment.

How long are the rounds? How long to we have to write each piece? A week? A day? Will it vary?

How long are the rounds? How long to we have to write each piece? A week? A day? Will it vary? Well, we can discuss that now. When I tabled the idea to Pete, my suggestion was to make this quite quickfire. 2 Days to Write, then a day of judging. Also we need to decide how confident we are of people's honour. Do we say that only the 2 writers can't judge, or all writers still in the competition?

I like the idea of quickfire, but I know alot of folks have lives to lead outside of the forum. Not everyone signed up even logs on everyday. While a quickfire competition would certainly be challenging, I think it would dissuade some folks from participating.
Also, in Arena tradition, I think the judging should be done on a simple Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down basis. The participant with the most Thumbs ups advances. The other is mercilessly killed.
So every participant judges except for the two writers. They leave commentary, and then a final verdict; a Thumbs up for one writer a Thumbs down for the other. No points.

Hence the name.

The only reason we hesitated on letting -everyone- vote is... okay, hypothetical scenario:
semifinals:
Mel vs. [somebody who barely made it this far, mostly on luck] & Kaez vs. [anybody]
Would it not be so that I might be tempted to vote for the person who -isn't- Mel, because Mel is... Mel?
That's what we were afraid of.
