For the worldbuilding aspect, do you think we should post some kind of summary blurb for our setting? Or is it better to just let it come out entirely in the stories? Ugh, no. No summary blurbs. Part of the fun of world building is the building part. If you summarize ahead of time. . . It's the difference between planning to build a chair from Ikea or a chair from a woodpile. In one instance, you got all you pieces and a set of instructions, in the other, you've got a bag of tools and endless possibilities.

That solves your problem, Pete, doesn't it? Ten writers. Well, it solves one but makes another worse. Because it does mean we have to have nine rounds. Which, by the end, people might be dropping out. That's 2 months the way we're usually paced. -And- last time the tournament ended and had a -final- round that lasted three weeks at the end. And we may do something similar again. That's too long. So. I think we should: Have ~3 shorter rounds than the rest -- maybe flash or poetry rounds that would require less time -- that would cut some time off of the total. Eliminate the day or two between rounds. We usually have the gap after submitting and before the next round starts, for judging, but this contest doesn't actually require immediate judging. So I think we'll get rid of that gap entirely, unless that day was serving as a welcome buffer for people? For the worldbuilding aspect, do you think we should post some kind of summary blurb for our setting? Or is it better to just let it come out entirely in the stories? I'll talk with Jor about it. I'd rather read at least one story in the setting -before- I read the blurb. So maybe one of the rounds will be a blurb flash round.

Yeah, I think that was one of the more brilliant decisions Agro and I made; providing you guys with burn-out rounds. Shorter stuff here and there to give you a little break and change the pace of things. Gives the judges a bit of a break as well, since reading a pack of short works goes pretty quick.

I just remembered what our "tiebreaker" round was going to be if we had a tie for the fourth final spot. People were going to have to write advertisements for fictional products.

I always forget how impatient I get with AWR Competitions.
They're great and I hate the waiting part.

You know, Pete, if you're getting concerned about the length of the competition you can always combine the elements of the AWR Cups of 2013 and 2014.
Say if we can find one more person to make twelve, split the writers into two groups of six (like we did in the 2013 Cup). However, within that group, do 1 v 1 matches until everyone plays against everyone in their group (like we did in the 2014 Cup). Now, you're looking at 5 rounds and probably around a month, instead of 10-11 rounds and possibly up to 2-3 months.
Then the top two writers from each group go into a Finale (2014 Cup) or Semi-Finals (2013 Cup) depending what you like.
Just a thought if you are worried. Otherwise, ignore me.

That's actually basically the plan. I'll have the official schedule up, including Ref, Blood, and Allya, either tonight or tomorrow.

Cool.
The only thing I'd strongly suggest as an improvement on the 2013 Cup is not have dedicated judges for each group. Have them weave back and forth so everyone gets both judges at least twice.

Everything is simpler if we include Jor as a writer. That makes it 12. Two groups of 6 each -- the two highest scores in each group will advance to a three-round playoffs and the entire thing will be done in 5 weeks. As long as folks are okay with me being the sole judge, I'm okay with the responsibility of reading and reviewing twelve stories a week (especially given that this tournament style allows me a full five days to review any given round). I'm actually super excited to judge this tournament and plan to give, like I said, pretty in-depth feedback. So. If that's okay with people, and tell me if it isn't, this is the gameplan: Group ALPHA Taed, Allya, Injin, Inkdrinker, Kwan, Dragon
Group BRAVO Zovo, James, Reffy, Bloodeye, Silver, Jordoom
ALPHA | ALPHA | ALPHA | BRAVO | BRAVO | BRAVO | Date | Taed v Allya | Injin v Ink | Kwan v Dragon | Zovo v James | Reffy v Blood | Silver v Jor | 1/03 - 1/07 | Taed v Ink | Injin v Kwan | Allya v Dragon | Zovo v Blood | Reffy v Silver | James v Jor | 1/08 - 1/12 | Taed v Kwan | Injin v Dragon | Allya v Ink | Zovo v Silver | Reffy v Jor | James v Blood | 1/13 - 1/17 | Taed v Dragon | Injin v Allya | Kwan v Ink | Zovo v Jor | Reffy v James | Silver v Blood | 1/18 - 1/22 | Taed v Injin | Kwan v Allya | Dragon v Ink | Zovo v Reffy | Silver v James | Jor v Blood | 1/23 - 1/27 | A1 v B2 |
|
| B1 v A2 | |
| 1/28 - 2/1 | A1 v A2 |
|
| B1 v B2 |
|
| 2/2 - 2/6 | A1 v B1 |
|
| A2 v B2 |
|
| 2/7 - 2/11 |

Taed plays Dragon twice...
Other than that, it looks cool. I'm absolutely fine with you as a solo judge as long as it's not too much work for you.
Edit: Actually Group A is a little messed up. The first round you have two Inks and no Allya. Round Two, two Kwans, no Ink. Round Three, two Dragons, no Kwan. Round Four and Five looks okay.

Yeah, it was just a single mistake in the far left column that carried on through them all. Three competitors were pushed down one each. Fixed.
