Since it seems like we have a few people planning on doing it this year, we might as well have a new thread. Sign up for no practical reason at all, but merely tradition and to be publicly named and shamed for failing to reach 50,000 words by the end of November.

... I still don't know! Umm-ing and Arr-ing about the whole ordeal. It would be great to get writing again and it would be fun especially with some ideas I've had. On the other hand, it'll sit in my folders and go nowhere and will I even have enough time!

Yup, I'm in.
As said: not for a novel, but trying to get 50,000 words down for the worldbuilding project. Will definitely use this thread as a daily brag or shame.

You should throw in a short story or something whenever you need a break. I'm going to go predominantly with my novel, but flick to the occasional short story as well. I have a few ideas clogged up due to exams.

I dunno if I should work on the novel I'm already working on or something new. I'm leaning toward something new. Something about the wild adventure of 0/50000 and starting at Chapter One.

You can put me down as a participant. I missed out on NaNoWriMo'12, but I'm looking forward to the challenge this year.

A little bit of excitement just happened :] Clinging on to it! Just remember this post two weeks from now. That is, unless you're a powerhouse writer and reach the goal by then. I've done the math and figured that if I write about two thousand words a day I should end up just above the 50k mark. Two thousand a day isn't that bad... I think.

IIRC, the last NaNo I did was either 2009 or 2010. So it's been a -while-...
...but as it went last time: some days you'll write 4,500 words. Some days you'll get around 1,000.
Yeah, 2,000 every weekday would get you 50k. Or 1,600 every day. But forcing yourself to crank out an extra few words -- or stopping short because you've hit your goal -- probably isn't going to help.
So just try not to make 2,000 too much of a goal in your head.

Agreed. I guess the numbers just kinda give me some perspective on the feasibility of reaching 50k words. But we'll see how it goes.
By the by, what genres are you all writing in this year? Sci-fi would be a great challenge to me, though I know I could never even compare to, say, Fred Pohl (Gateway series was terrific!). So, I'm just sticking with fantasy, which seems to be my forte. Guess that's what I get for reading it so darn much.
