Well that's a bit of a bummer. I was expecting a Nobel Prize for that. Honestly, though, as I was writing that I started getting really into it. The environs, the culture I was assembling from patchwork, and the mythology really came together.
I'm looking forward to revisiting these people in the near future.

How the hell did I get a third place here? Wow, this has to be my best placement in one of these contests.

Also, you can't say my piece easily was tops in quality and entertainment, and then grade me a point lower than Agro in quality. C'mon... lol

Oh man. Everyone's going to have to recalculate what is considered a good score because Pete's back in the judging seat. Yeah, I could make out the awe-shaped hole you'd crafted, just couldn't quite find the awe in it. Really enjoyable story, though. Well that's a bit of a bummer. I was expecting a Nobel Prize for that. Honestly, though, as I was writing that I started getting really into it. The environs, the culture I was assembling from patchwork, and the mythology really came together. I'm looking forward to revisiting these people in the near future. It seems like the kind of thing you'd be good with. You've got a pretty solid grasp of Polynesian/Hawaiin culture and history, IIRC. Good fantasy tends to come from the foundations of actual history. How the hell did I get a third place here? Wow, this has to be my best placement in one of these contests. I think it probably is. If I was a dick and didn't let Zovo enter late, would've been 2nd. Also, you can't say my piece easily was tops in quality and entertainment, and then grade me a point lower than Agro in quality. C'mon... lol Ah. Yeah. I guess I kind of misspoke. Joke's on you, though, so. That's... that's fine with me.

I almost feel like writing a story about a kid who goes around mooning people...

Hmm. I have several different ideas for this. I suppose I should actually start writing one soon.

Pete. Pete. Pete?
How in-depth are you're going to be reading these? Because I think I have a really cool idea but I'm acutely aware that 'Moon' could be missed. I could be heavy-handed about it, but I really don't want to. And yeah, I know you can answer with my own typical answer "you run the risk of being docked points but seriously, try the risk if you think it's a good idea."
Basically. I'm pretty confident you'll get it. But if you don't get it on the first read are you likely just to say "no, that didn't work" or will you have a ponder before awarding points?

I like to think that I read them and contemplate them pretty thoroughly? I'm not a stranger to symbolism and metaphors and underlying ideas hidden in my own stories. I tend to keep an eye out for them in other people's. I think you're fine. Posting this didn't hurt. But, y'know. It's your call/risk.

This is the main reason why I dislike such short stories. I find myself fretting more over the actual form of the narrative. Decisions. Decisions.

I'm out of this month. I just haven't had time because my family has been buzzing all around me. (It's the first grandchild on both sides so they're a wee bit excited.)
