Welp, looks like I'm adding Harkaway to my list. edit: by the time i finish this short story i'll have totally forgotten so i'll need you to remind me next time i ask for suggestions I'm not sure you'd like Harkaway. I prefer him to Mieville, but I'm not sure you would. They do similar things, but it feels very different. Like both of them will head off on tangents for paragraphs and pages and discuss and philosophise. But Mieville's is often more ethereal and linguistic, and Harkaway is more comedic and story-based. Like, The City & The City has tangents about cities and police bureaucracies, but it's all based in language and written like that passage about a bridge. Whereas Harkaway has a tangent about bureaucrats by taking a page to explain three types of "pencil necks" in a hilarious way. And, I don't know, I just feel like you might not like that. Edit: Basically, I can see you coming back to me and saying "this is so dumb, James."

I was looking at the descriptions for some of his books and they didn't strike me as things I'd find interesting. But if I ever read books only that way, I'd never have read as many as I have, I think. But if you think it wouldn't work then it probably wouldn't.

You might notice there's a new subboard in the Story board. It's just a place for people who might want to keep their stories hidden for publishing-related reasons.
It's... the big kahuna.
All one word.

New Blog Post! wp.me/p5ULJ2-32I talk about Zombies, Game of Thrones, and why I'm tired of both of them! Hey, Matteo, is there any way you could add the functionality to ProBoards to allow us James or Matteo to link their personal websites underneath their avatars the way you can link a facebook, twitter, youtube, etc. account?

to allow us James or Matteo to What does that even mean? Are you me? Is Matteo Matteo? Is Adam Matteo? Who's Pete? Am I Pete? What do you mean by ice cream soda? When you said pet graveyard, did you mean a petting zoo? Awwwww, here it goes.

New Blog Post! wp.me/p5ULJ2-32I talk about Zombies, Game of Thrones, and why I'm tired of both of them! Edit: None of this is actually relevant to what you wrote and the general theme of your post. meh bad. So I don't know if you want comments or if you want them on your blog or here or what. I just wanted to say: if a show has lost your interest, or makes you feel like your not able to enjoy it, is it really a good show with good writing? I'm super biased. I don't understand the fascination with the Walking Dead. Its become its own metaphor, a weird undead ouroboros. I've tried watching it season after season and cannot stick with it. Its plot is meandering and recursive, with lifeless and obnoxious characters that appear to be going through the steps required each and every agonizingly-slow paced episode. All for a quick burst of action. Then nothing. It probably doesn't help that I just plain don't like any of the characters. I realize something may have happened recently to change that but I can't be bothered to go back and watch it to catch up.

I am interested, I do enjoy it... But I also know that because of what it is, the end of the journey is going to be a let down. So I'm not sure I want to jump back into that knowing that I'm inevitably going to be disappointed. It's like going on a road trip to the grand canyon. You have a great time with your friends on the road making memories, etc; but then you get there and you're like, "Yup, it's a canyon... Should we get back in the car?"

But...its the grand canyon. I have low expectations for TV show endings in general. I think the point you make about GoT would actually be a good ending, as nothing else would really be satisfying for me. Every character is terrible, so really the only good that could come out of that show is everyone dying. The worst ending, for me, is having Khaleesi take the throne and we end up with a ridiculous return to the pre-show status quo. But, again, biased because I don't like Khaleesi's story. But you also didn't answer my sorta-not-quite question: do you want comments here or on your blog?

Shouldn't have to log in or anything, I've got it set so anyone can comment. And no point in polluting AWR with my non-AWR stuff. I can reply there as well.
