Pretty cool that we may both being doing a proper NaNo again something like 4 years later. You've clearly proven that you've improved as a writer since then. I've... done a whole lot less writing. Maybe mine will still suck. I was at a higher level of suck; I had a lot more to improve on. You'll be all good.

Think I only read like the first third or so, so maybe it gets worse?

Think I only read like the first third or so, so maybe it gets worse? I think the writing quality got better as it went on, actually, but I was clearly losing track of the narrative and story-wise was beginning to drag, and even I felt that, which is why it still doesn't have an ending.

Enjoyed the latest short though - so things are improving.

Yeah, I remember a very pronounced change in writing quality. Like, you sent me a long piece which I read, then you sent another which was like it had been written by a different person. I think I was part way through that when you told me you never wrote an ending and I stopped.

then you sent another which was like it had been written by a different person. It may literally have been. James and I co-authored the first four chapters IIRC.

He and I agree that the story's primary fault was that it started off co-authored and then became my project. That's a bad way to kick things off and kind of scarred the development of it from the get-go. So, kind of, yes. But that's not anything even resembling an insult to m'colleague who is fully aware that I hold his writing in the utmost respect. It's just not a good idea to change the number of authors part-way through a story.

I've been writing a lot more recently. Gotten into a funk and its a nice way to do something other than homework. I've got my sorta blog, but I've also been spending the past few days writing for the competition. Having another story to go off of really helps and I really really enjoy the story I'm making. If this was November I'd probably try to turn it into a legit novel, but Nov is so far away for me right now that I'll just be happy with what I've got.
Its not super smart, but I think it'll be a decent story.
I've also been reading a lot of strangely written stuff recently. Like the writing is p bad, but then the author will surprise you with actually good characters or a certain direction for the story and I can't stop.
Also, I find that I have most of my writing ideas when I'm in transit. Driving or walking to class.

Which I might as well do now because I need some legit good reading. Make sure you get a full-color edition. This is the one I have: www.amazon.com/House-Leaves-Mark-Z-Danielewski/dp/0375703764/Because this is a book without any pictures that nevertheless is best read in full color. Yes.

I work on my three NaNo novels-to-be continuously, and take breaks for small short stories. I'm hoping that being back here and involving myself in competitions will kickstart my writing so I can actually finish at least one of them.
Also I'm in a creative writing class, so I'm doing that, too.
