If we get 16 who's going to vote? We're starting to bounce back but our regular membership is still down. Are we going to have enough people who aren't competing, but who are still committed enough to read, vote for, and feed back on, all the entries? No, no. Writers can vote and review. They just can't vote in their own match. So if you're writing in Match A, you can review all the matches and vote in Match B, C and D. That's how we did it last year anyway. Make this knowledge widespread.

Is the Arena going to be used as a recruitment method?

Is the Arena going to be used as a recruitment method? ... if we can figure out how to use it as such? Yeah. Sure.

You know what might be fun. . . If we could actually come up with some sort of prize.
Like something someone maybe donated to the compatition so the winner could actually get something out of it. Something small and on the theme of writing that could be mailed to the winner. I know I've got stuff lying around that I could donate; and I'm sure if you guys looked you probably do too. Unused notepads, packets of ideas, pencils/pens, books I liked. . .
Actually, you know what would be -really- fantastic (and this just hit me as I was writing this) if each writer in the competition donated into a pool of prizes to be sent to the winner. And if these donations were simply each writers favorite book they read in the past year.
So that, if you win, you will recieve a box of everyone's favorite books.
Or something to that effect. Of course there are shipping costs and shit involved, so I'm sure that'll turn everyone off to the idea. I just thought it might be fun if there were an actual, tangible prize.

Tangible prizes have been discussed on AWR before. We've never gone through with it. People have objected, I think.

That seems good. When do we start? I have asked this question twice. I have got no response. I think we need to decide whether we're going to try and drag some new people in from other places? If so, then we'll have to wait a while I think, maybe mid-Jan. If we're not then we can start pretty soon, maybe the 5-7th.

Mid-Jan would give more time for anybody advertising this zany competition in other places ... hint hint ... recruitment of awesomeness
Also, writing! And props to Kwan for stepping back to organize.

So far as donating prizes... Some of us that are writing, like I, have very little in the form of tangible stuff.
...Though, I did get Golden Axe from the Steam gift pile thing, I could do that.

The reason for this is to preserve anonymity until the final round. Part of the fun of the Arena is that no one is sure who they are writing against, or who is ahead, or even who is still left in the competition. It takes a litle bit of discretion on everyone's part not to go an post, "Well, I'm out. Damn." if they lose, but there wasn't really any problems with it last time.
Honestly, try to guess who was writing what was a lot of fun.

Honestly, try to guess who was writing what was a lot of fun. It's 50%+ of my enjoyment of the Arena.
