Oh, James, 'Edward the Ninth' was meant to deliberately signify that it was an alternate history. I was also trying to imply that European civilization had collapsed, hence Bristol burning (it got bombed in WWII but not to the extent where panicking people would have been swarming onto ships) and the fact that His Majesty isn't even described as the King of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, just the Maharaja of India. I was trying to avoid hammering you over the head by making it blatantly obvious. Maybe I should have called him "the Emperor in Exile" or something.

I thought that might have been it, or some sort of twisted future. But yeah, it probably needed a couple more clues.
