Why do you think that it can? Its just a picture. That air could be made of a lot of things. Orrrr that that terraformer can be responsible for making it supportable.

Maybe that's just what it's human victims call it because it resembles human terraforming devices and they can't pronouce the alien word for it because humans don't communicate in scents.
