I'm kicking out the idea of he princess and making March find something else inside the hold. A he-princess you say? Sounds like you're walking a pretty controversial line there, Tam.

I'll be "Jordan9" again.
No clue what I am going to write. But, again, I shall try.

I'm caseyfreeland. Is there a group on the site forum for this group? Maybe under Writing Groups and Clubs, perchance?

I don't think we've ever done that, that's a good idea!
Thinking of trying for post-apocalyptic this year... maybe its "The Walking Dead" biasing me. I really like how in TWD zombies are really more part of the setting (as opposed to part of the plot.) Dunno if I will do zombies though...

Night of the Living Dead zombies have always been my favorite. Still scare the heck out of me. I feel strangely connected to them for some reason. Maybe because I was just six months old when the movie came out. Maybe because it was the first time I had conceived of something undead. (I think I was eight or nine when I first saw it on Creature Features.)
Good luck with the zombies!

If you're gonna do zombies, do something different with it. I think I might just be a bit burnt out on the whole zombie thing, but I'm really kinda "meh" about the undead in general right now. TWD, I think, only works for me because like you were saying Jor, the zombies are more part of the scenery than they are a plot device. Which makes them more tolerable for some reason.
Maybe take a more traditional voodoo aproach to the whole zombie thing. . . not actual living dead, but rather living people "cursed" to appear like the living dead. . . or something.

Well, you'll be happy to know that in the two ideas I have bouncing around, there are no biological/pathogenic bases for either zombies. They're both pretty barebones, so bear with me. One is a historical fiction/zombie/sci-fi kind of thing. Basically, a New York Detective in 1898 gets embroiled in a crazy conspiracy, wherein and antediluvian cult seeks to uncover an ancient artifact (spoiler alert: hibernating alien) that they believe will allow them to seize control of the world and usher in a new era of prosperity. Of course, the artifact is really an alien that hates humanity (I'm going to leave it open-ended as to if it is simply an alien or a Judeo-Christian kind of demon thing) and the cult is pretty deluded. Zombies are created (somehow) by the alien. The second idea I had came to me after reading "A Canticle for Leibowitz," (I'll even probably utilize the Nuclear origins of the apocalypse.) Basically, it is going to be a post-apocalyptic travelogue of a Catholic priest (probably set in the Southwestern United States/Mexico) and the people he meets and travels with. I don't really have much planned for the plot other than that, a lot of words would, ideally, go to his internal thoughts, crises of faith, etc. In this one, I'm not sure if I would use zombies or just regular people succumbing to cannibalism. I might go for rabid, unsocialized children, which would be really macabre, but still interesting, I think. More literary-fiction, (or that is what I would strive for; feels pretentious, to me, to say that you are intentionally-writing that) and character-driven as opposed to having a concrete plot. I'm leaning more toward the second idea, just because, reading it back, it sounds less cheesy than the first.

Hmmm, I've always wanted to do an RP the focused on the Christian Apocalypse outlined in Revelations placed in a modern scenario. . . a sort of, what would it be like if these things started happening tomorrow, slow at first and leading into the larger events.
Never figured it would work with RP (because no one seems to have the patience for my brand of tension building, and the story is too well known there'd be little surprise), but the whole idea of the dead walking as a prelude to The End, could make for an interesting zombie story. No virus, no biological warfare, no government conspiracy; just good old fashion supernatural occurence with a basis in modern mythology.

I'm very close to where you are in my writing. My current novel's first draft is at 30,000 words. If I do a little more writing before November 1, and if I decide to do Nano this year, then I will likely have a finished first draft on November 30th. Good luck!!! Good luck, comrade. I will see you at the finish line. I've got a few ideas that I've been mulling over since my last participation in one of the writing contests, but I don't know if I'm going to have time during November to actually get down to brass tacks and put them on paper. *waves hand* You will have time. Actually, you might be the person who has had the longest gap since you've last written anything around here. So if you do write it'll be good. I think it's time to kick Westward Star into overdrive and really make an effort into creating a better story than the intro you read awhile back suggested. I'm kicking out the idea of he princess and making March find something else inside the hold. And losing the British Space Navy? Because that threw me. Big time. I'm caseyfreeland. Is there a group on the site forum for this group? Maybe under Writing Groups and Clubs, perchance? There's not currently. I'm hesitant about making a thread over there for us because I want us using this board -here-. But then again having a thread over there might be a good recruiting method for getting some new people. We'll have to have a ponder about it. Also I looked over at that Groups and Clubs board. There's a pro-choice and pro-life club... seriously. That has to be the strangest writing group/club I've ever seen.

I plan on writing this month. It'll be about a fucked up alcoholic kid who runs away from home, and has wacky, drug-related misadventures with two people whose personalities I'm still working on. I look forward to a charming romp that definitely won't offend my worldview with tales of suicide and general futility.
