NaNoWriMo http://www.nanowrimo.org[/center] As you are most likely aware of; NaNoWriMo is throughout the whole of November. It's the challenge of writing 50,000 words in a single month to complete a novel. Obviously in AWR we have bent the rules a little with just saying writing 50,000 words towards a novel (or maybe even a collection of short stories), either way the project doesn't need to be finished. After all, 50,000 words is hardly a novel.
Anyway, this year to try and spark a bit of life into AWR Writing's Department we're making a big deal about NaNo. We want as many people as possible to have a go. We want people trying to write novels. Or people trying to write a collection of short stories. We want people discussing their works and discussing writing in general. And we'd love people reading and giving feedback when writers ask for it. So come along and give NaNo a try this year, AWR-Style!
And post your NaNo account name so we can add each other on the actual site (whenever the feature goes live).
List of Combatants JRERowland (Agro) Matteo DiGiovanni (Taed) Drall Croswynd (Tam) AKSawyer (Flar) Caseyfreeland Jordan9 (Jordoom) schro 2011 Reffent Zovo Flameeagle J.O.N (Dragon) Waldy (Walder) Kwan?
Until the 1st November use this thread to discuss NaNo and your ideas, seek advice or just generally amp yourself up for a month of flat-out writing.
It's go time. Nearly.

I'll do this once I can get the website to work. Just hope it doesn't just give me a reason to not write for the rest of yet another month.

So to get the ball rolling here... who has ideas and who already has a plan and who will be panicking on the 31st because they still don't have anything?
I'm obviously (still) going to be writing Phantoms. But for the first time I'm going to be entering NaNo with a very clear incentive. Finish NaNo and I finish Phantoms. I'm at 60,000 words and my outline comes out somewhere around 90,000-100,000 words. I expect it'll be a little longer. But 50,000 words should take me to the finish line, heck repeating last year's 45,000 should do. So for that reason alone I'm pumped for it.
The only downside is I won't be starting till the 4th November. I have Uni Exams till the 3rd so I'm going to have to make up 5,000 words over twenty seven days so my daily target will become 1,850 words roughly.

My current novel's first draft is at 30,000 words. If I do a little more writing before November 1, and if I decide to do Nano this year, then I will likely have a finished first draft on November 30th. Good luck!!!

Is it wierd that I'm turned off by the idea of registering with another website?
Like I've got an idea that I've been mulling over for a while, but registering elsewhere just makes me not even want to mess with it. God I'm strange.

When I was with Nano, I completed the 50,000 word count five years in a row. I haven't participated in a few years now, but I do miss the experience. If you hate it, drop it. But you won't hate it.

I've got a few ideas that I've been mulling over since my last participation in one of the writing contests, but I don't know if I'm going to have time during November to actually get down to brass tacks and put them on paper.

I think it's time to kick Westward Star into overdrive and really make an effort into creating a better story than the intro you read awhile back suggested. I'm kicking out the idea of he princess and making March find something else inside the hold.
With luck, this will be the foundation of real progress to a novel I can be proud of. If nothing else, it's still great practice, both in writing and making a storyline out of it.
