Basically this is a place where you can get feedback on creating certain types of fantasy creatures, get help on it as well. I guess I'll start.
Race: Chialchicittecca
Common life-span:
0-48 - Hatchling/Child
48-86 - Hatchling/Preteen
86-149 - Teenager
149-407 - Adult
407-893 - Old Age*
893- - Venerable**
*Old Age and Venerable just means they are no longer able to breed, that being the only genetic transformation in their people. Seeing as there have been no cataloged cases of common diseases that can effect other races (Alzheimers, Arthritis, etc.) and are still physically and mentally fit.
**None have yet to die from old age, deaths have commonly occurred from plague, poison, or death from battle. Theorized immortality.
Physical description: The Chialchicittecca is filled with different sub-races, who all seem to be content to remain in large cities that fly miles above the sky. Each sub-race is gifted with the traits of a different bird. Each member of the race has talons for arms and legs, and an extra set of limbs, the third pair being a pair of wings on their back that allows them to fly. Feathers cover their entire body, allowing them to walk around with no clothing and still not have the appearance of actually being naked, but they do remained clothed for modesty. Beaks are not developed until they pass the phase in which they need to suckle.
Their talons are the same scale-like skin as that of birds.
Bird types (These all are subject to the different sub-species within their species. Ex: Andean Condor and California Condor): Raven/Crow, Hawk, Falcon, Eagle, Ostrich, Penguin, Duck, Swan, Vulture, Quail, Dove, Owl, Hummingbird, Hoatzin, Crane, Gull, Dodo, Pelican, Condor, Parrot, Catbird, Swallow, Peacock.
Language: The Chialchicittecca language is a combination of trills, caws, and shrieks, giving them a very melodic language, even when yelling in anger. Are also able to master any other language given enough time.
Magic: The Chialchicittecca use little magic, generally restricted to a combination of divine, arcane, and tech magic all rolled together. They are religiously lead by Theurges who study all aspects of magic, there are a few priests and wizards amongst their people, but they are less prominent than the Theurges.
Religion: Pantheon of deities, each representing a different aspect of life. Generally there is a chief deity for each city. Ex: Roroket (Ra-ro-kay), Goddess of Carrion and Strife is the chief deity for the City of Shadows and its satellites (Crows and Ravens), the City of Death and its satellites (Vultures) and the City of Blood and its satellites (Condors). (Other deities might come if I start a thread dedicated directly to this race).
Hierarchy: The hierarchy of each city is ruled over by an Elector Count, or Countess, who pays homage to the Highlord. The Highlord rules from the City of a Thousand Songs, where members of all the cities and their satellites can gather together. The Highlord has been, since the Chialchicittecca became civilized, elected from either the City of Nobility (Eagles) or the City of Chroma (Peacocks). The election is carried out by the Elector Counts. In an emergency, the Counts can call a session to change the current Highlord for a different one. Generally the City of Nobility brings forth the Generals and War leaders of the people, if they are at war with someone, while the City of Chroma brings forth the most politically minded members.
Technology: One of the most advanced races technologically. They wield spears that can be charged with a force to harm foes easier, and wear small devices on their wrists which can generate a powerful shield (much like Jackals in Halo). Will also carry Gear-swords, which generate a potent poison to coat the blade. Differently designed spears and swords depending on the City. All of their cities are propelled by a combination of magic and technology, allowing them to fly through the clouds like the people it carries.
Military: The City of Spears is home to the Falcons. The most militaristic of all the Cities, making even the City of Hunters (Hawks), pale in comparison. Once a male of the Falcon Chialchicittecca is able to wield a spear they begin training (Age 49). Once they reach adulthood they are required to become soldiers in the army until their 800th birthday, when their stay becomes optional. Females of the race can be trained if they wish, but are not forced to serve and are primary income for families. The City of Hunters trains Hawks from their 86th year, and are not required to server in the military, but will be called upon if war is declared. Other cities have near the same training, though the City of Thought generally trains future scientists and magic users and the City of Death, Shadows, and Blood train assassins and spies primarily.
When fighting, the Chiala will swoop down from above, generally with falcons leading the way and hawks covering them with a rain of arrows. The initial attack will consist of spear thrusts, followed by a few lifting up enemies to hurl them away. After this initial assault, the warriors who specialized in hand-to-hand most will land and begin the main fight while other forces cover them from the air with arrows and magic.
Both out of and in main battle those who lived in the City of Death, Shadows, and Blood and trained as assassins will strike from the back lines, and even in the troop tents, using the magic of Roroket to disguise them.
Culture/Society: Equal gender societies. Men and women can hold their own jobs and their own property. If a male family member dies the female becomes primary head of the house. She can choose whether to give the children any of their inheritance when she pleases. Same for the male.
Genetic oddity: Though they do look to be birds, and can even communicate with the animals, they are more mammalian. They give birth to live children (even though they are referred to as Hatchlings), and females can lactate to feed the child if they so wish.
Fashion/Dress: Children generally wear a simple kilt and belt till they reach their Teens, when they begin to wear a loose shirt and pants until Old Age, when they wear full robes. At old age, men will wear a headdress made of feathers from a bird of their race (I.E. Hawk Chialchicittecca will wear headdresses made of hawk feathers) while women decorate themselves with different jewelery also decorated with the feathers.
Armor: For those fighting, the Chialchicittecca have developed light-weight, but tough, metal armor from a combination of different ores. This allows them to fly even in full battle garb which consists of an open helm with a plume atop (can be multiple plumes for ranks above private), a breast plate and a chain shirt that reaches down to their talons (feet ones).
Architecture: The designs of the floating cities are all identical, flat on top with a large wall surrounding it to only show the highest of the buildings, while the rest of the floating city slopes down into a rounder bottom. Inside the wall are sprawling lanes winding through beautiful forests and meadows.
Strangely, some of the sub-races of the Chiala share common designs for one another.
