Project Fantasy
So when Project 42 was mutually decided to be put down... I had a thought...
Since a wee seven year old version of myself picked up the Hobbit, I've been obsessed with fantasy. I've drawn out a few hundred different fantasy maps and even created an entire globe (yes, a real, 3-dimensional, fiber-glass globe // I'll upload a photo of that eventually) for a fantasy world, but it always remained there.
While I imagined the races and cultures and beasts in my head... I never actually put them all on paper and created my own fantasy world to set epic tales into! Well, I figure, why keep putting it off? Now's the time to start.
So yesterday morning I woke up, got out some paper, and sketched out four different single-continent worlds, decided on one, cleaned it up, added some features, and eventually scanned and gridded it.
Step one of creating a fantasy world has begun. All going according to plan, I'll finish off the full, fleshed out map, the cultures, the societies, a cast of characters... and start telling their story right here on this board.
I'll be posting some sort of update here daily -- every other day at the least.

Dude, that's what I used to do too...and I should probably get around to writing a story about one of those places...
Hmmm...

>.> I actually have a horribly cliched fantasy story/world lying around here somewhere, though that was back when I wanted to make a videogame out of it, literature would be better for it, though I need to reduce the characters, and clean up the plot...
I'm actually basing From the Flames off of that world, though cleaned up, and lacking the the excessive use of magic.

I've got one specific, distinct culture using it - and that's it.

I liked Tolkien's style of magic; Only a few can use it, and it's not even to insane extents. Enough to wow people, but not enough to warrant immortality.

Though I do, and I'm slightly ashamed of it, tend to get inspiration from other fantasy things I see. Like LotR or even Warcraft. I borrowed the zeppelins from WoW, and modified them with cannons and made it freakin huge. But I only have humans at the moment, having trouble coming up with fantasy races that are sufficiently different enough.

This one is going to have a wide variety of human cultures and a -single- other Upper Species (those mentioned as the only who use magic). Not to step in to your domain, Kaez, but please don't include Elves in your world. And if you have to include them for some reason, make them as derogitory from mainstream fantasy as possible. Like... make them barbaric, godless savages who love to mingle with the other cultures of the world or the technological masters of the universe whose only care in the world is the development of civilization. At least something diffrent.
My 2 cents.

But this is pretty fucking fantastic Kaez I actually probably still have the map... Though the world was flat and not round. See... I'll have to draw a new one now. Maybe I'll toss it in with the story. And yes, it looks like it'll be a great read.

Not to give a random life story or anything, but when I was six years old, I played Mario Kart at a hotel, which inspired me to create a nation from those little mushroom headed, diaper wearing, servants of Toadstool. It's been 7 years since I created that world, and I've complied every idea I've ever had for them into one notebook, which includes a detailed description of every battle of every war they fought, of which there were twelve. A detailed non-military history. Political ideas, religions, philosopies, laws, holidays, foreign affairs (yes, all the other nintendo characters had nations of their own in this world.) maps. The list goes on. Of course, I've never showed this book to anyone but my family, considering how embarassing it is to have wasted so much of my life drawing up ideas for battles and trade laws that have no effect on anything but my entertainment. But I still like to pencil things in every now and then whenever I've got too much time on my hands.

Okay that sounds kinda odd... but basically people with bird heads and arms with wings who live in technoloigcal powered flying cities? ... It was a race I had come up with long ago >.> Don't look at me like that.

I would say, "Yes" if I wasn't already aware of a lot of their culture and history. And it doesn't really fit bird-people.
