Can't decide if I should try that Steam Punk scenario... or if I should write tonight. I'm contemplating revisiting an old writing project, but I also really like Civ.

I have only one problem with the steampunk scenario and that is that I feel it should start before you reach steam. You need more time to expand. As it is, you plant your three cities and then race for tech.

Blew through it in like and hour and not really sure what I did to win. lol Just kept building things and advancing tech and cruising around with my blimps and shit then suddenly, "You're the big weiner!" and I was was all, "Woo?"

Yeah, pretty much this. There is potential for something amazing, but right now its just neat. It certainly feels to short.

Yeah, pretty much this. There is potential for something amazing, but right now its just neat. It certainly feels to short. yeah, I kinda had this feeling of "just getting going" and suddenly it was over. I mean, yeah you can keep playing after you win, but there were only like 6 different units and no real upward advancement. . . so It just would have been me wandering the map all maxed out trying to destroy a bunch of other guys who were also all maxed out and, we'll, I -just- did the world conquering thing. I did start another game though, Incas on an archipelago. Thinking of playing towards a diplomatic win. I've got four cities and a Great Wall that basically surrounds the whole island I'm on. Thinking of not expanding from there and concentrating on culture and growth in those four cities while remaining friends with as many other cultures/city-states as possible. The island I started on was just loaded with gem mines, so I've got lots of that to trade away for gold and luxuries.

Dunno if any of you guys have tried much in the way of Civ mods but I found a couple I really dig that I thought I'd share. The first is R.E.D. (Stands for Regimental and Ethnic Diversity, or some shit). It re-scales a bunch of the units so that they are a little closer to realistic size, so you don't have spearmen the size of tanks and such. In addition to this is, in order to fill out the hexes with smaller people, the unit formations and such have been altered and number of individuals increased. Makes battles seem a bit more realistic when there are more then ten dudes involved. It also includes small changes to different cultures units, so that Roman spearmen might not look like just a re-skin or pallet swap of Ethiopian spearmen. Their shields might be different shaped, or they might stand in different formations or whatever. The mod doesn't affect stats or anything, just a nice aesthetic change to add a little diversity. Here's a link: forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=383375The other is called Perfect World 3. It's a map generation script that designs more realistic maps. It takes into account things like hypothetical weather patterns and realistic drainage paths for rivers. Again, just another aesthetic thing, but this one can actually affect gameplay pretty significantly since certain parts of the world will be heavy in rivers, or hills, or specific resources, etc. whereas others might be more barren. I'm waiting for a mod that changes it so the new G&K civs with two UU's get one swapped out for a UB. They've got one for the originals but the lazy arses haven't gotten around to the newer ones.

I've been using R.E.D. I'll have to check out the Perfect World one.

Heheh, had a fun-first last night playing Civilization.
An allied City State of mine captured an enemy city; never seen that happen before. Of course, they opted to raze it instead of keep it so I had to ruin my rep with them to get it from them before it was rubble. . . But it was still kind of cool to see Singapore capturing Antium.

That is what city-states did historically.

Didn't want to have to start from scratch after it was done burning.
