Downloaded Civ V this morning... it is now 3AM, heading for bed. That's how that works, yup. A misclick actually cost me this latest game I was playing. Four hours in, no saves yet, and I've got the tech advantage. Montezuma has been at war with the world, and me, but he hasn't bothered to send any units at me for a while. He pops up with an offer for peace every now and then, except he demands an absurd amount of things from me. And I can easily hold him off. On the third time of him asking, I accidentally click "accept." Insert ragequit.

It's a pretty sweet Civ, I like the Moai.

Fun fact: They actually hardcoded Gandhi to put all his resources into constructing nukes (as opposed to just happening to build them like any other civ) this time around.

I think he was coded to be a dick in general as a joke. Most have I think stats on how likely they are to do certain things. Monty, for example, will wage war every chance he gets, same with the Viking dude, and they'll love you for it if you declare on them. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most likely to use nukes, they literally coded Ghandi at 11.
Its great.

That is just sicknasty. But seriously, that is odd. Maybe they were thinking of Indira instead of Mohandas. There's a select few leaders that will always, always, -always- declare war on you at least once per game. Monty, Napoleon, Tokugawa, Temujin, Izzy if you don't share her religion (in Civ IV), etc.

Every time he declares war on me, the twelve soldiers/cannons I have sitting outside his borders move in, and he gives me two cities to stop poking his capitol. He conquered all of Siam, and I conquered it all back. This pleases me.

When Gods & Kings comes out (that's, uh... tomorrow? or sometime very soon?) let's just make a Civ thread. I'd love that. I like talking about my games of Civ with epic language. Dramatizing the whole affair.

I need a good mod that really enhances the Modern Era and provides a wealth of options going into the "Future" eras. The one I've been following seems to have been abandoned, with no posts in its subforum on CivFanatics since January.
In some of my best games, I've spent the allotted time up to 2020 or 2100 or whatever just building up a vast multi-continental empire (see: America on Earth 18 Civs and Rhye's and Fall, England and Byzantium on Earth 1000AD) and officially winning by space race. The storylines, like conducting a cross-Atlantic invasion on a Europe that had long since collapsed into anarchy, didn't really fire up until after that had passed.

Dramatizing the whole affair. I should try that. Could start with my current game. Civ games make great stories. You don't tell someone, "Yeah, I beat Russia." You tell someone, "Russia was weakened from a recent war with Denmark and still frail. I deployed a navy across the sea and crossed the Rockies and started picking off Russian outcrops until I surrounded Moscow." You make it into a story in your head. Why not make it into a big dramatic yarn on AWR.
