I just realized that I'm stuck with Silver for all eternity, thanks to the excerpt. Anyway, it's October now: What's the word? That I've started writing?

Roughly 1,800 words into my Prelude (Prologue? is there a difference?) and I'm hoping to get it finished up and maybe posted this evening.
So far I'm pretty pleased with it. Bear in mind that much of this will be "second draft" quality and I may be editting and adjusting things along the way. If I do so I will mention it somewhere so you (the reader) know what to go back and reread in order to follow the story.
Also, the idea of you guys writing stories in this world still stands. If you see something in your reading that strikes your fancy and you'd like to elaborate on it (the history of a location, the origins of some artifact, a back story of some minor character, etc.) let me know.

Prelude (Prologue? is there a difference?) Prologue is (though not technically -entirely-) limited to writing. Prelude can be music, etc. Basically, no. edit: Sorry, god dammit. --Z

Prologue up! Please do not comment in the story thread, I will delete it. Comments are more than welcome pretty much anywhere else. Enjoy.

I thought you said 'I will delete you' I was disappointed to find you had not.
Oooo, I got chills near the end there, nice.

Excellent stuff. Really the only thing that I would have changed in the slightest about that was (and it really is such a minor thing) that you used snow as a simile twice.
However irrelevant it seems, for some reason, it stood out in what was an otherwise flawless piece.
*excited*

I know, and that bugged me too. I have a hard time with mental landscaping. The thing I had alot of trouble with was that I was trying to write it from the perspective of a character who knew -nothing-. There are only so many adjectives you can use when your observing character has a very limited grasp of the world surrounding them, and exactly zero life experience to compare it to. Even "snow" was a breach at that point because, well, the character had never experienced snow. But really, I could only write "dust" so many ties, ya know. I was hoping it would be longer but the challenge of that particular perspective really limited what I could do with it. It's certainly not flawless; there are a number of things I will likely revisit and touch up, but I wanted to get the ball rolling.

All right, I wanted to practice a shattering text effect, and I needed absolutely any text to try it with. So here is the thematically incongruous A World Removed logo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9imfCC6jPnw

Yeah, but there was no breaking glass in my SFX library and I was too lazy to go find one.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome. Needs a swelling dissonance chord and a sound.
Maybe I'll pull out a keyboard and record something. And then figure out how to get it to you somehow.
