((And so, I bring you the first part of that new story I promised you all!))
Prologue
Log #17 March 23, 2015
The species seems to have made an amazing jump in their developing progress. After watching for a much shorter period of time then we expected, we have seen two robotic operating ships take off from the planet and land on the nearby planet. They have also had one other drone fly to the nearby rock that seems to be stuck in the planet’s gravitational pull.
We shall continue to watch. They are not yet ready.
Log #20 December 28, 2016
Once again, this species continues to astound us with their progress. As reported in Log #19, they began to colonize the nearby rock in their month of January. They have now made the jump to beginning to colonize the nearby planet that they have named Mars.
Studies of these ‘human beings’ have being continuing. After learning that they spoke many different languages, we strived to find the main one. This language is called English, which is spoken in many ‘countries’ around the planet. We have begun our studies of this language, and have already made progress in translations.
The species is ready. The plan shall begin now.
Log #25 October 09, 2017
How did we not foresee this? All of our plans are about to be ended. The humans are not ready for a Despidon attack!
This all began with the launch. Every ship on the humans home world lifted off with most of their military. Shortly after, one of our scouts was shot down over the giant ball of gas the humans call Jupiter. Now there are 3 Despidon ships…
*Something has interrupted the transmission.*

~~~~~~
General Ian Guis could only watch helplessly as the Ouwolt ship next to them had a hole punched through it from the lasers of the Despidon fleet. He was left in awe at how quickly the enemy had managed to get most of their fleet to Earth. Nobody had expected the aliens to attack now, right when the launch began.
Everyone on the ship seemed to regain their senses and began to run to the weapons. Ian started to bark orders. “I want every weapon being used! Take these fuckers down!” He ran over to one of the guns himself and took careful aim at one of the two nearby Despidon ships. The General pressed down on the huge button in the middle of everything and a small laser punched a hole in the engines of the ship. It was enough to slow it down enough for the others to finish the job. Ian turned his attention to the other ship.
Before Ian could fire his second shot he was thrown off of his feet as his ship was hit by the Despidons. “We’ve taken some damage,” the pilot shouted over the intercom. “There’s a hole in the cargo bay!” Ian cursed under his breath.
“Forget about it for now! We need to take the Despidons out of the sky right now,” Ian yelled into the intercom. He was panting from the panic.
“Got it,” the pilot said. Ian ran back to his weapons station and aimed at the second ship in time to see it explode.
A cheer erupted from the soldiers on the ship. Even Ian joined in as a wave of relief washed over everyone. They had just dodged a bullet. Still, he couldn’t help but feel that something was wrong. Something in the back of his head was screaming at him. What had he forgotten?
Suddenly, Ian felt the relief escape from his body. The Ouwolt had said that there were three Despidon ships. Three! They had only shot down two. Ian rushed over to the intercom. “Turn us back toward Earth! Now!” He let go of the intercom button. “Oh shit, shit. Everyone, back to the weapons stations! We missed a ship!”
There was a second scramble throughout the ship as everyone rushed back to their stations. The ship turned just in time for everyone aboard to witness what was happening.
Ian now saw that no matter what they did now, they couldn’t stop the Despidon ship in time. It seemed that it had already warmed up its weapons enough. The laser fired, and struck the Earth at the same time that Ian shot his own laser at the rear of the ship. The others spread across the space around Earth were just realizing what was happening.
It took six seconds. Six seconds of agony for Ian and everyone under his command on the ship. Everything that they had known, everyone that they had known, died in a total of six seconds.
The Earth had been destroyed, and Ian couldn’t help but think it was his fault for not noticing their mistake sooner. His family was gone. Most of mankind was gone. It was all his fault.
“Everything we have, I want fired at that ship! Do you hear me?! Take these fuckers out of the sky before they hit Mars!” Ian fired off another shot. He didn’t have to say anything, as everyone else hit the ship with anything at their disposal. The final Despidon ship went down, and General Ian Guis couldn’t have felt worse.
((And here it is! Constructive criticism is always welcome!))
Chapter 1
Ian was among the other ranking officers on his ship. He had called for each commanding officer from the ships to arrive at a meeting. With Earth destroyed, they had a lot to discuss.
“What are we waiting for?” asked one of the nearby soldiers. Ian recognized him as Colonel David Roul. The two of them had served together a while back when the United Nations had made the decision to invade Iran. Neither of them could stand the other. “Everyone’s here!”
“Not yet,” Ian said calmly. “You should know this of all people, Colonel. The Ouwolt emissary was on your ship, after all.” David gave Ian a look of disgust, before returning his attention to the group assembled before them.
It didn’t take long for the Ouwolt emissary to arrive. Even now that he was used to seeing the Ouwolt race, Ian still felt intimated while in the presence of one. They all stood around 8 feet tall or more, towering over anyone in the room. Ian had yet to see one that wasn’t built like an ox. Almost all of them had a blue-green hue to their skin. Still more impressive were their rutted spines. The Ouwolt had razor sharp extensions to their spines that came out of their back. Each of these spikes were a foot long, and could easily break off to be used as a weapon.
“You have called for me to come?” The Ouwolt looked at Ian. A chill ran up the General’s spine when the clouded eyes of the emissary stared into his. How the aliens could see was beyond his comprehension.
“What are we waiting for?” David asked. “Everyone’s here now, so let’s begin.” The Colonel ran one of his hands over his shaved head. Ian gave him a disapproving glare.
“My impatient colleague here is right,” Ian said. “We can begin now. I’m sure you all know by now, or at least I hope you do, that the Earth has been destroyed by one of three Despidon ships We failed to stop it. I feel that this is partly my fault, as I forgot what was said in the transmission from the Ouwolt scout.” He took a minute to look around the assembled group. They all had solemn looks on their faces. No one said a word. “I have a question for you, emissary. One of the transmissions informed us that a small portion of your fleet was stationed just outside of the Asteroid Belt. Surely this would be enough to take down three Despidon ships.”
“What you don’t understand,” the Ouwolt said, “Is the fact that while this portion of our fleet would normally be enough to destroy these ships, the rocks prevented us from being able to see them in time to destroy them.”
“Of course,” Ian said. “That would be a good excuse if not for one fact. Your ships were on the side of the Belt that they had to come out of. You could have taken them down as they came out, or even around Mars. Why didn’t you?”
“The Despidons have much greater technology than we do. While we had the bigger guns, they had the speed and agility to outmaneuver and lose our ships as they came out of the rocks.” The Ouwolt emissary finished what he was saying.
Ian nodded. “Seems correct. But I don’t believe you. Want to know what I think? I’ll tell you anyways. There never was a portion of your fleet stationed outside the belt. I think that what you’re saying here is all bullshit.” There was a small amount of muttering throughout the officers.
David was the first to actually speak up. “That’s ridiculous, Ian. The Ouwolt are our allies. They would have no reason to lie to us.”
Ian shook his head. “They would have every reason to. Something here is off balance between the Ouwolt and the Despidons. Just look at the emissary here and try to say otherwise. The Ouwolt are huge. They have technology that we could only dream of. We’ve seen images of the Despidons. They seem small enough to me. I don’t think the outcome of a fight would differ if it was me or a Despidon fighting the emissary.”
David sighed. “What are you getting at here Ian?” The General didn’t miss a beat.
“I think the Ouwolt are going to use us as pawns to give them the advantage over the Despidons.”
David almost burst out in laughter. “And why us? They could do better than us! We hardly come close to all of their level of technology, even now!”
Ian stared at David for a minute before continuing. “Why not us? Even with the Earth gone, we still have a military numbering in the billions. That kind of number could cause some major damages before being wiped out. Isn’t that right, emissary?”
The emissary stood up. “You are sadly mistaken, General. We came to you in order to gain your help to defeat the Despidons, a scourge on the universe. You accepted. Our races are equal. We will not use you as pawns.”
Ian smirked. “We’ll see.”
The Ouwolt walked closer to Ian. “I think you are forgetting how much we have done for you. We eliminated your diseases. Gave you our technology. Prepared you for this war.”
The General sighed before continuing. “Go talk to your people. Tell them that they need to send another ship over until we can leave for Jaipel.”
Inter-species drama alert.
Sci-fi has always been an awesome genre. I've got to admit, though, this smells really heavily of Halo. Anyway, what this needs is some guy with a big gun to land on a planet and shoot things. Trust me. >.>
But yeah, it looks like it's taking a little while to start off, but once it gets rolling, this should be an awesome tale.
...Tell me if Master Chief visits. No, I won't stop with the cheap shots.
Who needs Master Chief when the stuff I have planned will make General Ian Guis and Colonel David Roul twice as bad-ass as him? Thanks for the comment. It's appreciated.))
