It is time.
While we have had six Arena competitions, the AWR Cup has always been the biggest event for the forum with at least 8 variations of it so far. And so it begins again. We're hoping to run this throughout August, but for now this is a thread to gauge interest and talk about the format.
So, here's what we want:
A) Are you interested in writing or judging in this competition? Let me know.
B) When would be a good time for this to start? Personally, I'm up for as soon as possible.
C) Any ideas about the format?
One idea that was discussed during Inklings is to have a competition of interconnected story. For example, let's say you write a story about Neil and Anthony going to the cinema in the first round. The second round prompt might be: write a story that takes place 25 years after your first story. You could write a story about Anthony's marriage. Or maybe Neil's children dealing with his sudden disappearance in Uganda. But also, you could just write about Joanne looking into a possible haunted cinema. The third round prompt would then be something like: write a story starring a supporting character from your second round story, which might be Joanne's plucky friend Nate who had just opened a pub while Joanne was looking into those damn ghosts.
Hopefully that makes sense?
So the stories could be pretty diverse in tone and genre (or they could be very consistent; it'd be up to you), but there would be a shared line running through them.
Anyway, let me know.
