APRIL ASSIGNMENT
What Comes Next?
That's right, it's sequel time! For the month of April, what I want is for you to pick your favorite story you've written for AWR and write the sequel. Things which make a sequel interesting to me include; tying up any loose ends in the original, making me re-think the original, seeing how the events of the first story have shaped the lives of the characters in the future, new characters and relationships which add depth to what I'm already familiar with, or how it expands the universe and explores new avenues of story telling in a similar setting. All while avoiding the pitfalls of creating accidental plot holes, or contradicting established lore. These are the things I'll be looking for and things I'll be judging on.
NOTE: I'm specifically seeking sequels, no prequels. I want to see how you incorporate ideas and elements established in the first story into a new story. Prequels avoid this by allowing you to rehash what happened -before- the first installment divorced from any significant relationship. Also, writing sequels involving time travelling back to before the original story will be frowned upon; but if it's significantly interesting you might be able to swing it.
- You have the entire month to write a story; the end of the month is the deadline.
- I'm looking for short stories. I don't want flash fiction or novellas. As such, the story need to be somewhere in between 1,500-10,000 words.
- You post your story in this thread. Don't post anything else. Head to the discussion thread or hit me up on Skype if you have a question.
- Begin your post with a link or attachment containing Part I of your series. I want to be able to go back and read the first one in order judge how they relate.
(Part of this challenge is me challenging myself to actually rea more of what you guys write, so I'll be effectively reading two stories each. This means reviews may be slow in coming, so the earlier you can post them the better.)
