If the Arena Discussion thread is anything to go by, we're not going to have a huge amount of discussion. So instead of having a monthly discussion thread, I figured we'll just have a MegaThread for all assignment discussions.
A couple of things off the bat then:
The February Assignment is up! I hope you like the "topic". Essentially, I have a few reasons for it. I want it to be open and broad. Like I said at Inklings, I want people to be writing their own projects as well as writing to prompts. And I'm hoping this prompt might allow people to go "oh, I have an idea that can work for this!". Secondly, I wanted to get people thinking about themes and ideas, and just depth in their stories. Finally, this is the type of stuff I like to read and write. Speculative fiction that is both entertaining/interesting but also thought provoking. Like Harkaway, Pratchett, Mieville, etc.
Beyond February, who else is interested in running an Assignment this year? And when? If we're going to have a different person each month, then we probably need to at least know who is running March before the end of February.
Anyway, get writing!

Woop! <happy dance> ... also, boo to your rules about flash fiction You could always run a future Monthly Assignment where it's just 10 rounds of flash fiction...

Double post ... Aren't you glad I'm back!
Tackle ... as in, present both sides? Or show how horrific the issue is? Or try and change minds about the issue? How big an issue? Do we just need to make you -feel- about the issue?
Might be going down the rabbit hole with this one!

It's really up to you. You could be highlighting something. The story could be advocating for or against something. It could be a story about the importance of friendship, about the ethics of cloning, about politics, etc etc and so on and so forth. Like, don't overthink this. It doesn't have to be something big. The story just has to be about -something-.

It could be a story about the importance of friendship ... Done that already with my WoW fiction. Also, MLP much?

Just over halfway through this month's assignment. Still plenty of time to start and finish an entry before the deadline!
I'm setting AWR a target of at least five entires.

Just a reminder we're coming up to the end of the month. Hopefully those stories are going to start coming in.

We need somebody to run a March Assignment. Remember, the format of a Monthly Assignment is dependent entirely on what the person running it thinks it should be.

Will be reading and reviewing the two February stories at some point over the next couple of days. At least we have a one on one fight to the death to win the February Assignment.

Sorry I didn't Feb ... was going to be an thinking piece about mum's who feel isolated and alone despite being at a baby club. I wasn't sure how to portray it and then the campaign on WoW started and I ended up writing a lot for that.
March looks ... interesting? I note the deadline for week 1 is already tomorrow! Oops!

No pressure to do all 4 weeks of it. You can just jump on Week 2 if you'd like.

Is fair. Idea is to write ... not slit your own throat trying to meet deadlines. And I'm writing! Just not towards competition yet.
