So, as the Arena nears its conclusion, I thought now might be a good time to revive the old Monthly Assignment. "Old" is an appropriate word because we haven't done one of these in five years. For our newer members, the Monthly Assignment looked a little like this:

So the general idea of the Monthly Assignment is going to come back. You get a month to write one story. You post it. It gets judged. The best story wins. Hopefully, the lack of a tight deadline will mean lots of people can get stuff written (instead of the opposite, which is no one feels pressured to write and we get no entries...). It also allows people to continue to write on their own projects, while also maybe submitting something else to the Assignment.
I was thinking that each month someone else could have a go at running the Assignment: setting the rules, deciding on a prompt, and judging it. It might keep it a little fresh, introduce some people to judging competitions, and just be a bit more fun than it always being an Admin who is judging.
Anyway, I'm going to kick the first Assignment off in February and keep it pretty traditional. But I thought I'd make this thread in case anyone has a really cool idea they'd like to put forward.
