If NaNo happens this year for me....
To Be a Body (Based on a 'Grimes' song. Title may change)
Plot essentially revolves around a war taking place inside an elaborate virtual universe, meant as an immortal colony for uploaded minds. The war is between the Uploaded ‘real’ humans, and ‘Simuls’, which are elaborate individual human reconstructions,. The Simuls’ original purpose was to provide a realistic rendition of an ideal utopia. Five ‘gods’ were tasked with perfecting this society before the Uploads actually came, but at the same time grew connected with their own creations. When the other ‘gods’, having created the rest of the universe, ordered the Simuls destroyed, the five rebelled, arguing that it would completely immoral to destroy what is now a full flourished society, launching the entire system into a state of war.
The novel begins, as is currently planned, when our protagonist, one of the five, betrays her comrades, offering her Simuls as an army to the opposing faction, and her loyalty, in exchange for being spared at the end of the conflict. She begins to fight her previous friends and fellow idealists (there’s a bit of personal spite here, as well as a simple love for her creations), but of course, as she distorts her own creations further and further, things won’t remain that simple.
The story, I hope will be written with minimal technical jargon, and the idea of it actually being a Virtual World is never going to be explicitly stated, although still obvious between the lines. I need better and less obvious names for the two factions (Thinking ‘The Ascended’ for the uploads, as it’s a propaganda attempt by the gods to give them a sense of grandeur) of course, and probably some other technical aspects.
Also hope to have fun with some mythical tropes and such, playing with the idea of including an Oracle, who can run almost internal simulations to anticipate future outcomes in the war, etc, etc.
