The above works on the assumption that we get ten writers (two teams of five). If not, we’ll have to rejig it a little.
Each match consists of two writers, one from each team. In AWR style, they’ll be some type of topic: genre, word prompt, restriction, something. The winner of a match gets their team a point. There are 15 matches, so 15 points on offer. A demolition would be a 15-0 win; the closest it can get is an 8-7 win. There are no ties. This is Thunderdome time, for each and every match.
15 matches and 5 writers in a team means that each writer can and will only write in 3 matches. You can only write in one match for each round (so no writing in both Match 4 and 5, for example). Teams will have to be strategic on deciding who will write when. One of the things we want to stress is that this is a team competition. While one person will write the story, the others and the Team Captain can also get involved. They can offer encouragement, ideas, and feedback (just as long as they don't write the actual story!). You win as a team, you lose as a team.
Each Round only has 3 matches. Why? Well, partly it helps the two judges’ workload. More importantly, it helps the writer’s workload. You won’t have to commit to a month and a bit of writing. There will be rest weeks. If you’re busy at the end of April, you can talk to your Team Captain (an Admin) and organise it so you write in the last three rounds. Likewise, if you get busy at the end of May, it can be organised that you’re done with the competition by the 17th.
Why are the topics posted before the actual “writing period”? So that teams have two days to decide who will be writing what. Each team will have a private subboard, so the other team won’t know who has been picked for each match.
Is that everything? Probably not. If you have any questions, post here and we’ll sort out the issue.
Otherwise, get signing up!
