As you may have noticed, we're trying to push some more writing on the forum. Well, we're not trying. We are. One of the great things from this year so far is Inklings. However, I've been thinking about having a written, forum-based companion to Inklings. Mainly, as an added bonus for those people who do go to Inklings, but also something for people who don't go (and guys, you should go!).
We've tried a Weekly/Fortnightly/Monthly Review Thread and it never really worked. I still don't think it would now. So here's something a little different: an exchange.
How does it work? I'm going to try and keep it simple, but basically:
- You link a piece of work you'd like to review.
- You review another piece of work already linked in this thread (don't review in this thread but wherever it was originally posted).
- The other person then reviews yours.
- Two stories are reviewed where none were previously.
So, this is going to rely on a bit of an honour system. Don't post in this thread if you have no intention of reviewing someone else's work after they have reviewed yours. Only have one story linked at a time, if you want to link another story, delete the post with the previous link in. Be sensible, don't post an entire novel and then review someone's flash fiction.
If everyone uses a bit of common sense, this -could- work. Beyond that, I'm not going to put too much effort into this. It either works and it's great, or it doesn't and I'll remove the sticky and the thread can slowly die.
NOTE: One of the reasons why I'm not investing too much into this is because I still think The Zovo Protocol is a good idea. If you want reviews, ask people for it. Even better, ask specific people. But I thought this might be a worthy companion to that rule, and also to Inklings.
