This is gonna be interesting. I think a lot of my short fiction suffers at least a little bit from a case of telling not showing. I feel the constraints on both time and space, so rather that letting a scene play out "in real time," I'll summarize and compress it. Rather than transcribing a whole conversation, I'll often bullet point it, and just say "So-and-so explained such-and-such." It's definitely neater, but I don't know if it's better. This should give me some room to stretch my legs and see what else works.

I agree, Taed. My stories would often be coming up on almost 5k words, and they still felt truncated and rushed. So stoked.

I'm excited, who said I wasn't? I'm just trying to sort the good ideas from the bad ones.

Maybe not right away, though. I really wanted to write something in this new setting I've been working on, and I'm having a hard time getting away from explaining it. Lot of description right at the start.

Sorry guys. Really disappointed in myself. I let at least two writers down as well. Forgives? Life got manic again and I thought I could keep up. Turns out I couldn't.

I write very infrequently and nearly everything I write is inaccessible and kind of disorienting. Truth is, I'm honored to be in your company. Shouldn't be the other way around.

I think the "inaccessibility" if your writing is what I like and admire. I feel like I have to really give it attention when I read it. And then, when I write, I feel like I often fall into "This happened, and then this happened. He said, 'This,' and then this happened."

Is this due at the end of Monday, or the start of Monday?

Is this due at the end of Monday, or the start of Monday? Based on previous deadlines, the end of Monday. i.e. before Tuesday.

I was gonna keep this to myself, but I figure I'd put it out there... Is anyone else planning on ending at a cliffhanger that makes the judges want to put you forward?

I wasn't planning on it, no, but right now all I have is mountains of exposition. A cliffhanger or two might spice it up a little.
