Languages
In Mavarra there are only a few languages that have survived to the present day and that can be spoken by most races of this world.
Firstborn -
-- Draega - Name attributed to the language spoken by the giants. Original name lost, scholars believed the name to have originally been Borrigunthorg or, literally, 'language of stone/earth'.
Secondborn -
-- Sorikkesh - Spoken by the Nothings, the Darkborn, the Void Children, the Never Formed and the dragons. Has all but vanished in fluency. Based less on letter and pronunciation and more on intonation.
-- Drakan - 'Spoken' by the dragons alone. A language based on posture, colorization of scales and various growls, hisses and roars.
-- Draeganda - A lower form of Draega spoken by the ogres after being created to fight the Secondborn by the giants. Literally: giant-tongue.
Thirdborn -
--Thorganda - Spoken by the dwarfs, a slightly different dialect of Draega. Lit: earth-tongue
--Imperial - Spoken by the humans of the Empire, a mixture of the original human language and invented slang. Goblins and elves also tend to learn this.
--Coradanda - Original language of humans, still spoken in the independent kingdoms and some parts of the Empire. Other races known to speak it are ogres, goblins, dwarves and a few elves. Lit: middle-tongue.
--Velemestri - Spoken by the elves, no known roots in any dialect of the draega.
--Shrikkunda - Spoken by the goblins, an extremely base form of Draega that not even their makers, ogres, fully understand. Parts are learned by city guards, thieves and members of the imperial underworld. Lit: sneak-tongue.
