((This will be my page for discussing The Prophecies of the Wind. I am going to use this for organizing my thoughts as well as actually posting.
Just a heads up: Magic in this world is elemental. The eight elements are Fire, Wind, Water, Earth, Holy, Unholy (Often referred to as Dark), Flora, and Fauna. And for the point of spoilers, so you don't have to wait, The Father is the God of Destruction and the Dead. They see him as the one who Judges those afterlife and then sends them to Hell or Heaven. The Mother is the Goddess of Creation, and they thank her for food, and life. They believe the Father does everything for the dead, and the Mother does everything in life.
))
Tears streamed down my face. My daughters, my son, my wife, my mother. My home. Generations of my family, dead, burned to the ground. I felt as if I was in a nightmare, but the pain of my chest beating and my eyes burning would have awoken me from anything. Though it was mid-day, there was never a darker sight to behold.
It was me and three men, my friends James and Brian, and our Captain. We received word some shipments of grain went missing. It was a simple mission: Go into the nearby woods, making sure not to go more than a mile in, and find the thieves that were stealing the grain. I didn't think I would be gone but two, maybe three hours.
We set out on foot into the woods, with out captain riding his steed. That is when they showed up. Elves. James, he got scared, thought he could escape them. Tried to run. I didn't see him after that. I pray to the Father he is dead, and yes I mean that. He would be with his family. Mother forbid he should live to see what became of everyone.
Well, we were damn lucky. The elves told us we were within the boundaries, and they were there hunting for humans who were going into their territory. They asked us to accompany them to kill these men, so as to not break the pact. It may not mean much to you around here, but the Pact was everything to the people of Grunol before this. We never enter their lands, and they never kill any of us on our side. Those elves have honor.
Well, it was an hour of running through the forest, trying to keep up with them. Finally, we came across a random cave, looking to be a bears den. The elves told us the crooks were in there. They said they would chase down any runners, but for the sake of the Pact, they would not harm any. That was to be our job. It was a simple enough job.
Well, we gathered the grain shipments and the heads of the crooks, four in total, and asked the elves to guide us out. That is when things get bad. I got a sick feeling when I heard the words from the leader. They asked us why our town was smoking.
Me, Brian, and the Captain all dashed in the direction the elves pointed. Even from three miles away, we could see thick black smoke in the sky. Grunol was on fire! The captain, he sped ahead on his horse. Me and Brian sprinted across the fields till we reached the road. I don't know why we were running, there was nothing we could do.
Well, we did reach the outskirts of the town. Just in time to see the captain's horse go running by. With only half of the captain! I won't disgrace is memory with details. He was a good man, Father bless him. It was damn near dusk, and the majority of the town was nothing burning timber and piles of ashes. Corpses were thrown everywhere, desecrated! I wanted to leave. I knew I could not face whatever did this. I wanted to run away and hope to find survivors.
But it was obvious there were no survivors the second I stepped in. Me and Brian were the only ones. The outskirts were already burned to ashes. I tried to stop him, but Brian demanded to see his house, as if it might have survived. We both wept at the sight of a black stain with charred stairs and a few support beams left standing.
Oh, but there was one survivor yet. As we stood outside the house, Brian got my attention. Off in the distance, closer to the center of town, a large hooded man was standing, sifting through the ash. I tried to tell Brian to leave, that if he did all this, we stood no chance. But Brian, he ran right for him, sword drawn. I chased after him, though I still can't think of a reason why. The man saw him coming the second he started his charge. He removed his hood and cape and threw it behind him.
But it was too late for Brian. He had his blade drawn and point at a Wind Magi. It was one of those black winged ones too! No, it was not a golden one, or an Angel, no, it was a black winged demon of a Magi. I have heard of how fast they move, but I could never have imagined it. It took Brian almost thirty seconds to cover one quarter of the distance to it, and it took it five seconds to cover the other three quarters. I never even saw it draw its blade. I don't even think he did. The Father took Brian as well.
I was ready to die. Everyone else was dead. But he walked by me. Never gave so much as a second glance. It spread its wings and took off. Why did he let me leave? He could have killed me, and I could be with my family in the Father's Kingdom, but he cursed me with the memory of what happened.
Oh, I came right here. I tried to tell the Council of Praba, but they laughed! They claim they would have received word if Grunol had been destroyed! As if my word wasn't good enough. They didn't believe there could be no survivors, or that the pact could be broken. They called me a glory seeking guard, and threw me out on my ass. I tried to tell everyone, and they all just wrote it off as guff. At the very least, when Praba gets destroyed too, I will be off to be with my wife and daughters.
And that will be any day now.
