... or Reffy >.> Still, round 2. Hoping this one'll be easier for me. The last starter ... yeah ... Um.

Excellent job everyone. It is interesting to watch the entries and the reviews and to see how well everyone mixes theme, story, descriptions and dialog into each paragraph. And then it is equally helpful to see how the reviewers , view the stories. The things you guys pick up on are really quite remarkable.
I have certain stories that I liked more than others, but the quality of the writing from bottom to top was wonderful.
Good luck to everyone in the next round.

Kwan, if you're gonna post the Division match names early, you should put the openning paragraphs up there so folks can discuss them.

Oh, are you assuming I'm still in the competition? Is that your implication? I just thought, since people are eager to talk about stuff, that'd be a safe topic.

Oh hey, for that matter we could probably safely talk about the starters of the first round. In an - I like this - what a shitty starter - kind a way.
For instance there were some that left open so many avenues for stories that you could literally go anywhere with them. Where others defined it so narrowly that it must have been quite difficult to come up with something original.
I'm honestly not sure which I prefer.

I've had both in the past and can say pretty confidently that I prefer those that point n a specific direction. The ones that leave things so wide open usually don't catch my interest too much and really force me to make tough decisions about what sort of story I want to write. The ones that point me in a specific direction do something else for me; the tell exactly which expectations I need to defy. They tell me exactly what manner of story I'm -not- going to write, because more often than not, when given a specific set of criteria, my first instinct is to look for a way around it.

I agree to a point. One of the reasons I never do the monthly short story competitions is that they are just a theme instead of a starter. I am terrible at coming up with something to write about unless you give me something to defy or work around. Then I will wrack my brain to make it awesome. However if the subject is super narrow you may end up giving someone a starter on a subject they know literally nothing about. That's tough as hell.

Got no idea where I'm gonna find the time to write >.> Damned stupid extra busy social life. Might need to miss Wednesday night gaming again. Whine, whine, whine Can't wait to see what everybody else comes up with or who my competitor is :] You pretty much just said, "Fuck it." and threw the whole "not knowing who is still in the contest" idea out the window, didn't ya?
