EDIT: Decided to take out the rough draft, didn't like it so much. Will work on it the next few days and repost a hopefully better, finished version on the start of NaNo.
Replacing this with info on the actual novel.
Synopsis
In the world of Kedrana, in the mountainous land of Al-Aresh, there lives a young elf princess named Raine Solvena. To her cousing Leras and bonded dragon playmate Sleveen. she is much loved for her kindness, naivete, and her honesty. To her mother Telana, Queen of the Mountain Elves, she is a much loved daughter, and a fragile spirit to be protected. To her people, she is a beacon of more hope than ever before.
However not all is right in her peaceful life, one day she overhears her mother's advisors talking about how she will take part in a grand prophecy that will begin when she becomes Queen, then, her mother falls ill, and is dangerously close to death, meaning that young Raine will soon have to take the reins as ruler of the elves in Al'Arash. Instead, she runs away in fear, with Sleveen and Leras in close tow.
What ensues is a tale of survival, of growing up, and fighting destiny, as Raine meets new friends, discovers new foes. No one will expect her to be a hero.
Character Names & Brief Descriptions
Princess Raine Solvena: Heir to the throne of the mountain elf kingdom in Al'Arash. Runs away to escape her destiny.
Sleveen: Raine's silver dragon bond mate. Playful and carefree, she loves nothing more than flying free through the mountains and playing games of 'keep away' with Raine, where the elf runs from her while Sleveen attempts to catch her.
Leras Solvena: Raine's cousin and future personal honor guard. Serious and no nonsense, he does not approve of Raine's decision to run, but follows anyway.
Queen Telana Solvena: Queen of the Al'Arashian mountain elves. The most popular ruler in recent history; she is kind and gentle, while managing to be stern when she needs to be.

While humans and other breeds of elves are in the world, they don't play much of a part(with the exception of one human)
Mountain Elves
These hearty people of the mountainous Al'Arash region in the north are much more similar to the humans than they are their fellow elves. Unlike high or wood elves, they can grow body hair, they are also much more masculine than their fairer cousins. Other than these differences, they share their cousin's other features; pointed ears, fairly tall, and able to build around nature(in this case, they can easily fit a city within narrow mountain passes, in comparison to the tree buildings of the wood elves, and the high elves talent for building cities around or near rivers, with flowing canals within.) Culturally, the mountain elves are a matriarchal society, and pay homage to the mighty dragons.
Originally tribal, with each individual tribe led by a group of female magic users. This was when magic was considered a gift from the Gods to the women folk, and not attainable by male elves. This changed when a young mountain elf named Shen'Rana became lost in a blizzard far from her village in one of the valleys. Close to death, she was saved by a young Silver Dragon, who brought her to his cliff side nest. The dragon and his fellows nursed her back to health, and when she questioned them about their ways and the ways of the world as they saw it, they answered. Enlightened, and seeing a supposed need in uniting the tribes, Shen'Rana made a deal with the brood mothers, in return for leaving the dragons be, and never attempting to hunt them(which the elves never had, but it is believed that the brood mothers merely wanted to ensure it stayed like this) the dragons would teach the rest of the elves in Al'Arash, and assist Shen'Rana in uniting the tribes. They would also bond one recently birthed dragon to each heir to the united throne. In Shen'Rana's case the dragon that saved her bonded with her.
The unification was complete within a month, and the elves(with both the silver and the black dragons help) began to build great cities. Shen'Rana was crowned first Queen of the new kingdom. Shen'Rana also included a system in which her brother(and by extension, his descendants) became her personal guard and manservant. Society remained matriarchal, especially after Shen'Rana had only daughters(conversely her brother fathered only sons). As time went on, the royal family(on Shen'Rana's side) slowly changed in appearance, adopting more draconic features. As for the dragons themselves, the current royal bondmate chose a successor from a recent clutch, four generations after Shen'Rana, it was decided that only female dragons would be chosen, to match with the matriarchal society of the mountain elves. Also over time, the dragons began to base their elvish forms on that of their bondmate.
Side Note: The bond is so powerful, that the two bondmates often find themselves sharing feelings, and will often become lethargic and depressed when separated from one another. They also feel the others pain, and can read eachother's thoughts. In most situations, when one dies, the other will die soon after. When the elf dies of old age, the dragon will most certainly die simaltaneously, usual protectively laying around their bondmate as they would their own young. The same happens when one or the other becomes deathly ill. In times of battle, if one dies, the other may live for at least until the end of the fight, often spurred into either a vengeful rage, or a death seeking attitude.
Shen'Rana was a special example, because she was not bonded from birth she lived to a ripe old age when her dragon mate tragically died from sickness. However this left her heart broken, and even though she still ruled well, she was described as being incredibly depressed until she died. It is believed she may have attempted suicide, but stopped at the thought of how her daughter would react when suddenly thrown into the position of power without Shen'Rana training her first(the heir was only 16 at the time)
