So wait .... historical fiction? Does that include alternate history and historical fantasy? Like, if I wrote about "What if Germany won WW2?" or "The Cold War from the perspective of Zombie Churchill" does that count? Or does it have to be a fictional story that remains fully grounded in historical fact?

I was in ZOMGSRSLY complaining to my friends about my chosen topic. Mentioning that it'll probably end up as some fucking bad Twilight parody - when a friend pipped up (the dude animating my script, in fact)
Quote: "You'll never be as good as twilight, don't worry"
... thanks guys!
It was a Freudian slip, he admitted, but wow, vote of confidence from my friends already! *Cries!*

Nah, Twilight isn't gothic at all. Dracula is gothic. You can do something like that. Or Edgar Allen Poe! It's really just a sort of romanticized horror isn't it?

Not entirely sure! Need to do home-work on it. I think it's mostly "Frankenstein." Love that cannot because of evil-undead-zombie-vampire-werewolf ... thing.
*Headdesk!*
... Twilight in some ways was "a love that cannot."

No, no. I don't think that's the essence of it at all. It's more about aesthetics than content. Tone and style. As a genre, it was inspired by gothic architecture more than anything else.

HA! Did you know that "Beauty and The Beast" is Gothic Fiction? According to Wiki it is! *Mind-boggles* Think I'm getting over the panic and pain of it. Wouldn't be so hard if I had ever done a vampire story, or a romance! Got a few ideas floating to the surface. This is going to be interesting. Sorry about your topic! Saw it and felt really bad for you guys.

Oh do a biological apocalypse. We never get to see that. It's always scorched earth and barren wasteland, so boring. Let's see some plants gone wild.
EDIT: I don't know what you guys are talking about, I think the topics are great.

EDIT: I don't know what you guys are talking about, I think the topics are great. It's not that it isn't great ... coz Gothic Fiction could be pretty awesome. All of the topics are very interesting and awesome. It's that I've never done Gothic Fiction before and don't have the foggiest idea how to do it now! I love a good challenge - and this will be one.

I just really want to know what the boundaries are for mine. How far can I take the "fiction" half of "historical fiction". Not that I don't love history, it's just that it limits my creativity somewhat.
