Chapter One
Onto the brisk morning day does she eagerly awake, begging the morn's dew to drip from her open window-seal. In the height of the mood, the small girl gazed out the open hole in the wall, the tiny corners of her mouth curving into the beginnings of a smile.
Spring.
The small, brown-haired girl dropped her small stuffed wolf animal and stumbled anxiously to the front door. Not able to reach the knob just yet, she grunted, jumping - her finger-tips just barely grazed the cool metal standing erect off the wooden door-frame, taunting her with her own reflection. Whimpering out, she sat down, gazing up to her newfound enemy; so shiny, so teasingly shiny. Almost like the sun outside that awakened the dormant plants and animals across the plain she lived in with her tribe.
"Hmph..."
Across the small structure she and her parents lived in, she heard them stir. The minute girl got to her feet, small hands balled into curious fists, crystal green eyes wide and excited. She practically ran toward the noises within the small cubical of her father's and mother's bedroom, sneakily pushing open the cracked door."Momma... Daddy..." She whispered, smiling wide."It's pretty outside."
The room was relatively dark, giving a musky scent to it. One of the figures on the mat on the floor stirred, sitting up. It was her mom, so beautiful with her long black hair and matching green eyes."Honey... It's still early..." She cooed, motioning her daughter to come into her arms."You know we sleep until night on this day."
"But mom... Why...?" The girl crept over into her mothers arms, looking down to see her father on his side, back to them. She made out - with the small amount of light flooding into the room - specks of gray in his brown hair. She sighed, then, gazing up to her mother's sad smile."Because, my dear, on the first day of spring the eagles take the children with them to their castle. They do mean things and beat you up." Kissing her child's forehead, she lay back on her side, holding the girl to her chest."Sleep now, my dear. Tomorrow is the celebration of rebirth."
Acceptingly, the girl shut her eyes - reluctant to have to watch the beauty of the day waste away without her joyous laughter and pattering booties on the green grass. Frowning, she whimpered."I forgot Champy. I need Champy." Remembering her little stuffed wolf, the mother shushed her."You can have Champy tomorrow, and then we'll go play outside. Hush... Go to sleep..."
Whimpering again, she noticed that her father stirred to her quiet cries for her best friend to be with her on such a special day. Tiredly, she nosed into her mother's breast, falling into a deep sleep.
