Need help with Knightmare(My novel)

So I've come to a dilemma, and I would like to get some input on how to continue.

So I've gotten to a point where I need a slightly clever plot device to put a little twist in for the readers(add suspense and a sort of early hint at a sequel) and I would like a basic public opinion on my possible decision.

The basic idea is....

So Alex, Rene, and Tara, Jack, Elizabeth and Lea were travelling via a stealth aircraft to a neighboring country to find out more informationm about some hackers that have been plaguing the System with viruses, along the way, they are pulled down into the hangar of a submersible research ship, where they discover a few very disturbing project leftovers, as well as the dead crew. As they go along they find areas of the ship that had been used more recently, and that are still active. They find that this is the birthplace of both the Knights, and the System, and was used as a prison for the crew. In the meantime they discover the Carrus orginization ordered two Knights to completely exterminate the crew, and here is where I hit the speed bump.

I already confimred Carrus' role in here, but I want to know if it's really to cliche so that Alex's brother Eric(who 'died' prior to the stories' beginning) one of the Knights who carried out the killings

Again I'm not looking for a definite answer, I just want opinions

I'm guessing I'm already late here, but I shall respond anyways.

It's not that cliche at all, really. And even if it were, as long as you're doing it in style, there aren't many people who would care. Especially if you're a good writer, which I think you're reasonably close to being.
