www.scriptfrenzy.org/Script Frenzy! 100 pages of Script in 1 Month! (Crazy ... stupid ... really bad idea ... LOTS OF FUN!) Roughly three and a third pages per day. www.scriptfrenzy.org/eng/user/512099(My page. Just in case anybody wants to follow my page count!) And - Ooooo jeez - panic time! 13 days before this officially starts and I have NOTHING planned. *Runs about like a chicken with its head cut off* Well, okay, maybe I lie. I HAD something planned but I DON'T like it anymore! *facepalm* I need somebody to bounce ideas off ... a writing buddy would be awesome! Heh >.> (Looking at you Frosty! You seemed interested when I bugged you ) ... oh and I'll probably be posting snippets in here for your enjoyment. I don't know if I'll be able to complete this challenge but I sure am going to try! *Cough: continues to panic ...* Maybe I should start by telling you what the original idea was ... and the idea that is currently overshadowing it but isn't nearly as well planned out.

I... dunno. Script writing just seems a lot less appealing to me, for whatever reason.
But I'm definitely curious as to where you're going to go with this. I'd like to at least hear what the original idea was.

Idea 1: This was the original idea I had. It was a fairly simple idea and not completely planned out. It was going to be a script for a webcomic/graphic novel type thing. It was going to follow a girl who escaped in to a Fantasy World every night in her dreams. However, stuff started going wrong. The dreams leaked in to the real World and the real World problems got into her Fantasy World. She created the dream-World as an escape from her shitty life. Her parents are divorced, she is bullied at school, she doesn't do well on exams - bunch of reasons why she hates her life. ... Anyways, yeah. This idea just isn't "bubbling" any more. It is, for a start, too much like Nott's, which failed horribly (to be rewritten at a later date). It is also a little too dark for the current mood I am in.
Idea 2: This is where things get a little whacky. I want to do a quest type film script. Taking a completely different approach. Think "Dungeons and Dragons" quest with a bunch of misfits. I'm thinking three main characters with Fantasy stuff thrown in between. Nobody knows what they are doing, but eventually they save the World (or slay the Dragon - or something!) Probably a Druid-drug-user (cliche I know - but I want this to be fun!) Paladin-who-isn't-good-at-light-stuff and Warrior .... who I haven't really figured out how she is a misfit yet. Probably a girly-girly who likes robes than plate armor. This is the new idea that is pushing out "Idea 1" ... As you can see, I haven't done a lot of planning! However, something like this just seems like it will be a lot of fun for me to write! I'm already a big dork and love fantasy quest type films!
In short - HELP!

Idea #1 sounds like, if done in a very serious, adult, dark way, it could be very interesting. Any other interpretation would be cliched at best.
Idea #2... well, it's got more potential than the first to be taken in a less-dark route. Especially if it's taken in the complete opposite direction: think 8-Bit Theater. I really think it has potential as a light-hearted, not-taking-itself-too-seriously, often-comical fantasy quest story :]]

The idea hasn't been dismissed yet. Its in the same pile that Nott's is in > "fermentation" until I am in the right mood to write it. I just, the idea isn't bubbling. The new idea is more fun. Only problem is that it seems a little cliche - would you watch something like that? Would you enjoy it? I also have no idea about the quest ... heh. Probably a scroll or vision sending them to do something. A scroll they trip over while drunk or something.

I really don't think it's cliched at all -- the only examples of it I can find are literary. Name even -one- movie or TV show that's a light-hearted not-too-serious sword and sorcery and I'll stand corrected, but I simply can't think of one.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeons_%26_Dragons_(film) ... mind you, it wasn't a funny film, it was pretty serious. I cried at least twice during the film but I also laughed a lot. This is definitely along the lines of my thought process though, for idea 2. A lot of silly comedy thrown in with some big "oh-shit" Dragon/fight/magic/DnD moments. (I really enjoyed this film even though it was a crappy film, lol. I'm just a dork for those kind of things.) I just feel that Druid-drug-user would be very cliched, along with any other cliched/misfit character I could possibly make. I'm not sure if that is a good thing. It could be funny, but would people roll their eyes at it? They probably would ... still don't have plot >.< lol Doing Screnzy as a good challenge. The script probably won't go any further than my computer and friends. Good practice for dialogue and it keeps the brainz squishy

Yeah, I have a special place in my heart for that movie as well, right next to Labyrinth... XD
But even that's a lot more serious than I was thinking. I'm imagining very cliched characters on a rather unserious plot, the least likely people in the world to be put in such a position...
... honestly, what I was thinking was pretty much word-for-word 8-Bit Theater. >.< Just because that's something that not nearly enough people have seen and would make an excellent TV show.

Looks like I have my decision! Idea 2 :] Thanks Kaez for talking it over :] You'll probably see me waffling on in here about characters or if I need more help.
I just need to start thinking more on the characters and plot now. I was tied between the two but as you said Idea 2 just sounds a lot more fun. Writing Idea 2 will probably be pretty easy as well, since I'm already used to RP/DnD type things. Just remove a lot of the "flowery" stuff.
I'm not panicking now. At least that is something! Heh

Heh Reffy, fantasy stories are the shit. The Wars of Lacoss, a record of a few D&D missions, pulled out every single cliche in the book, and it still became incomprehensibly popular, with it's own DVD series, a comic, and bunch of other merchandise that made the basement dorks who wrote it richer than kings. Why? Because it was done with style. The same goes for your story. Any cliche can be ignored if you write the story well enough. It's only when you follow a cookie-cutter, non-interesting storyline with merdiocre writing skills and such will people begin to, well, throw the story in your face. As long as your not a god-awful writer, (and believe me, you are most certainly NOT ) people will be camping out in front of bookstores for weeks to get their hands on your godly piece of humankind's greatest English fantasy novel. So, no stress. You're story sounds awesome, and you're an awesome writer. Glory awaits, Mrs. Reffers. Also... is a script any different than a story? If so, how?

Also... is a script any different than a story? If so, how? Instead of written in a traditional manner, it would be written thusly: JOHN Yeah, I think you're probably right... because when you try to... He gets out and is rushing to get his stuff together to go. Charlotte's lounging on the bed in her new pink underwear. She tries her scarf on that she's been knitting. CHARLOTTE Do you think it's done? JOHN I don't know. He goes to get all his stuff together. He passes an ashtray with cigarette butts in it. JOHN Will you please stop smoking? As though for a movie, or for a play. A -script-.
