Gilaan fought the Century War with Ichuk from 46 AR to 146 AR, and has spent the 254 years in relative peace. Though in 323 a 20-day battle was underway at the border yet again (due to both sides' persistent military outposts), it was quickly called off and another war was prevented. Amus Isle's temporary reluctancy also drew in claims of a hypothetical civil war, which was also halted.
Core Troops
Pikemen -- Virtually the entirety of Gilaan's infantry is, as it was during the Century War, made of various spears and pikes. Though shortswords may serve as secondary weapons in some divisions, the primary means of weaponry remains polearms.
Archers -- Archers are an outdated breed in Gilaan, now neither the most efficient nor most powerful ranged fighters and requiring more training than crossbowmen or the gunfighters. Still, the archers exist (for now).
Crossbowmen -- Crossbows have, for the most part, replaced the long bow as the main source of ranged fire in Gilaan, and the many outposts along the Gilaan-Ichuk border are filled with these weapons.
Additional Troops
Cannon -- Though other nations have shown interest in adapting to it, only Gilaan, the inventors of the 'black powder' technology have incorporated the cannon into their military.
Musketeers -- These smoothbore, flintlock, muzzle-loading weapons are a bizarre new development of Gilaan, effectively using black powder to its post potent on-field potential.
Pistoliers -- Pistols are the smaller, less powerful, more easily manage cousins of the muskets and are a state-of-the-art, brand new invention of Gilaan. After a few weeks of testing, the first pistolier regiments were added to the Gilaan army.
Misc. Defense
Swordsmen -- Swordsman do exist in Gilaan, generally as freelancers, and none of them are officially recognized by the Militia of the State.
