The Kharnathian Standing Army, relative to the length of time it has existed, has seen more conflict than any army in history. The first soldiers to officially be enlisted were those Rosian soldiers serving under Vaesar Rolland during his rebellion against Rosia and the Empire itself could be said to have been birthed from its loyal militia.
Core Troops
Axemen -- Kharnathian axemen make up almost precisely half of the core, front-line, combatant troops of the military. Ringmail and leather compliment a wide variety of axes.
Swordsmen -- The other half of the Kharnathian front-line and core troop movement are the swordsman. The troops are armored identically and strategically used in the same manner as the axemen.
Thunderers -- Thunderers are exclusive to the Empire and, indeed, were invented from evolutionary requirement. These troops are specialized cold-weather fighters, wrapped in thick, warm furs and wielding any weapon they can get their hands on. Typically these are the biggest and strongest fighters in the Kharnathian front and their armor is often heavily decorated with horns, claws, and spikes. Few troops are more intimidating and none can match their brute force.
Additional Troops
Hammerers -- Hammerers are a third rank amongst the swordsman and axemen for front troops, though much less common. Hammers require more specialized training to use effectively, and are relatively uncommon.
Cavalry -- The Kharnathian Empire often flanked Rosia in Winter War battles with its cavalry, which were, at the time, mediocre at best. The horses were not readily adjusted to the colder temperatures and harder grounds.
Crossbowmen -- While archery is more-or-less out of use in the north's militia, crossbowmen make up most of their ranged warfare.
Misc. Defense
Commonfront -- The commonfront are a mismatched bunch of miners, explorers, and settlers who fought alongside the military in the winter war, equivalent to Rosia's freelance companies.
