Aeondalia
This is a work in progress, I would greatly appreciate any input or help. Thank you! (ignore spelling/grammar)
Aeondalia
Major or Capital City: Aeondal (1), located near the lake
Other Cities:Calantri, located at the end of the river connecting the lake and the ocean (2)
All Towns: Mistvale(N/E of the area, near the Mistlands) (3), Grovenshire (4) (south of Aeondal) Raennal(5)(between Calantri and Grovenshire) and 4 more unnamed towns along the trade river.
Government Type: Democracy? Aeondal and Calantri each elect their own official to sit on council, two river towns each get one official, while the three smaller towns get to elect one person between the three of them, making a ruling seat of 5 officials.
Each city has a council of nine for more mundane matters, and the towns have a council of three.
Crime and Law: Laws are mostly uniform throughout the nation, with punishments ranging from fines to imprisonment to death.
Law is kept through the Aeondal Guard, stationed in each town and city, the amount varying depending on the populations, and they also patrol the more prominent roads.
Professions: As this is the most prosperous realm on the continent, the professions range from necessities to luxuries. There is a rich trading route that runs along the river from Aeondal to Calantri gives sailors jobs. Fishers from both the ocean and the lake make well, with the ocean fishers doing slightly better. Farmers are in abundance, with Grovenshire being the area with the largest population of farmers.
In the cities, there are a plethora of “odds and ends” shops, as well as many trades being practiced, from leatherworking to interior design.
Trade, Currency and Economy: The economy is bustling in Aeondalia, as the land is fertile, with plenty of farmland, port access, and mineral-rich mountains surrounding. Currency is measured out by the “coin,” platinum, gold, silver, and copper.
Trade between [Civilization B], [Civilization C], and [Civilization D] occurs quite regularly, even in times of unrest.
Market: Aeondal contains a vast market, arguably the largest on the continent, with the second-runner-up being Calantri. The river towns have sizable markets as well, while the rural towns have exceptionally small markets.
Organizations: The Aeondal Guard is a prominent organization, keeping law and order. The river trade is looked over by a branch of the government, keeping things running smooth and “fair,” depending on those in office at the time.
Celebrations and Events: ?
Education: Formal education for most children in the cities, with ample opportunity to enter their field of choice. The government has set up a fairly successful program allowing young teens to spend time learning various fields of work, which generally keeps the citizens happy. The towns give a base form of literacy and number skills, and occasionally send their children to the cities to take advantage of the government’s placement program.
Communication and Language: All Civilizations speak Common (subject to change)
Social Class Structure: Upper, consisting of the luckiest of the river traders, and middle, consisting of mostly everyone else. The lower class consists of mostly sailors who prefer the carefree life, there is very little poverty. (subject to change)
Population: Large. The cities are very full, while the towns have respectable populations.
Nature, Food and Resources: Wood, water, stone from the mountains, metal and minerals from the mountains, this area is very rich.
Wildlife: ?
Climate: Temperate. Cool summers, chilly winters. The ideal place to live.
Geography: Nestled in the valley between two mountain ranges, the mouth of the valley is narrow, allowing a very defensible border to the east, and an ocean to the west.
Mounts and Pets: horses for mounts, the occasional dog and cat, and an exotic animal or two for the wealthy merchant. Dogs are used in the farms and for tending cattle as well.
Technology and Medicine: Ships and herbal remedies. Guns/explosives are nowhere near this time period.
Subcultures: Those from Mistvale are a different sort, some say the mists change those who live near them too long.
Militia: A respectable naval fleet, paid for by the merchants, owned by the government. The army isn’t quite as powerful, and is supplemented by the Guard when needed. There is a secret section the government uses as well, which is an intelligence force and an under-the-table tactics group at the same time. Curiously, many of the members of this mysterious force hail from Mistvale.
Weapons and Armor: Choice among the Guard is chainmail, short swords, and a dagger. The army is armed with chainmail, a longsword, shield, shortsword, and dagger. A separate unit is trained in archey, bows and arrows.
Most citizens travel armed, ranging from small daggers to short swords, though knowledge of use is generally limited.
Brief Timeline: 200 years ago, [Civilization B] broke off from [Civilization A], because they felt [Civilization A] wasn’t giving proper military backing. (subject to change)
Relations w/ Other Cultures: ?
Homes: made from anything from wood to stone, depending on preference and wealth, the size varies greately
Religion and Spirituality: hmm…
Architecture: again, from wood to stone, there are many whose profession is to create beautiful homes, so those with a bit of money can afford to live in the occasional masterpiece.
Clothing: leathers and cloth for the majority of the population, some of the richer merchants occasionally wear finer cloth
Arts and Literature: being a relatively well-educated land, there are those who sculpt and paint for money. Due to the lack of any way to mass-produce books, most are rare. The government has a library in Aeondal, in which many have jobs of copying down books for those who request. Literature ranges from history to trade agreements to legends and myths, most of which refer to the Mistlands.
Entertainment and Culture: Traveling shows, minstrels. Aeondal has a theatre in which it is considered an honor to perform.
