From the PM:
Although, wouldn't an AWR book be awesome?
So secondly, we want your advice. We're looking at producing a paperback AWR Book to celebrate the 5th Anniversary. We want a physical testament to how awesome AWR is. We have two choices right now: a simple anthology of stories written by AWR Writers, or an AWR Yearbook type thing filled with stories, artwork, quotes, 'most likely to', and so on. We want your advice on which one would be the way to go! Although, the Admins are leaning towards a yearbook type thing.
However, publishing a book isn't simple even in these days. We're looking at various avenues (CreateSpace, Blurb, etc) to do it. If you know of a way, please get in touch and tell us. Otherwise, if we go with Blurb or CreateSpace, it will probably cost anywhere between $6-15, depending on the size. Obviously, if that's 25-30 copies (optimistically, one for everyone logging on around the 5th Anniversary) then that can be up to $350 (plus any upfront fees). The Admins are willing to put some cash into this, but we are all students.
So we propose the best choice is that we get it published, and then you lot buy the books yourself (at about $6-15) and the Admins can probably take care of any upfront costs. It might also be worthwhile considering a little donation fund for anyone who might struggle a bit to get a copy of AWR History by themselves.
Taed on the Yearbook (it was his idea):
And I basically just meant what I said. We could put together a little high school yearbook for AWR. Some art, some stories, quotes from the members, "most likely to" awards, etc. Could be fun.
I think the big thing would be to just rack our memories for important events and persistent jokes from AWR's history, so we can commemorate them in retrospective. That's more meaningful than just a dossier of writing, and it's funnier too. Whatever we do, it should be funny. That's more true to the spirit of AWR.
