Kinda feeling a Deadlands-esque story. Cowboys, saloon girls, shoot outs, etc. Maybe with paranormal aspects ... maybe not Thulu-esque though? Overrated. Man, use you imagination... Oh! Make your "Mad City" into a Western.

That was the major crit when we ran the competition.

I'd love to see some Native American inspired paranormal aspects against the colonising frontier men. It could be a fun little research project.
Or heck, even go the other way. The white man bringing some evil spirit/monster with them.

I've been thinking about doing my Longhunters story. I'd go into detail, but i'm currently using my phone due to reinstalling OSX on my mac. Might break out the ol pen and paper tonight to get an outline going.

So I now have sheets of paper (I outline on paper), and I think I'm getting somewhere. I have: a one page synopsis of the plot, backstory for the city, a page summary of my two main characters, and general notes about character growth, themes, and so on.
I'm now onto a chapter by chapter outline. I'm limiting it to just a page for each chapter. I really need that chapter outline because I'm not sure how well the pacing is at the moment.
Hopefully, by the end of the week, I might nearly be finished outlining/planning.
I'm getting pretty excited!

So, here's a tricky, out of left field topic.
What am I going to read next month? I'm not like Zovo who avoids books like the plague when writing. But I also feel like I should maybe avoid fiction for the month? I wonder if I read non-fiction, will that affect my writing? Do other people have any habits around reading and writing?

29 chapters. That's what I'm currently looking at. I just finished outlining the last chapter now.
I've got a few more days left, so I'm probably going to edit the outline a little. I started drafting this in a three act structure, I feel like I can flow the chapters better if I start seeing it as five acts.
I also feel I should write some shit over the next few days so I'm back in the actual writing routine.

Been really frustrated with work lately, so the last thing I've been wanting to do when i get home is sit in front of a word processor.

I almost want to start writing by hand just so I'm not looking at a screen all the time. But I'm a cack-handed lefty, writing by hand isn't much better really.

It looks like I'll be firmly in the middle of my second act at 50K words. Roughly chapter 20.

I read material related to my topic/setting. Last NaNo I read non-fiction local history for the town I had based the town I was destroying in the novel on. This NaNo I'll probably read The Origin of Species again. Maybe I'll pick up something fun like Reader's Digest's Mysteries of the Unexplained.
