Never really thought about it like that, but yeah, makes a lot of sense. Definitely something to keep in mind.

Yeah, been following that from the start. Amazing that some fairly obscure novelty reddit account has managed to elicit an article in the Guardian.

So I was thinking(and I have no idea if this has been done before or not) of doing a short story/novelette about the Five stages of grief.
For ease of use I was going to set it in the same universe/world as the little science-fantasy saga I've been brewing. More or less as an exercise in taking a few characters with trauma in their background and getting a feel for them.
This is what I've got planned right now;
Denial; Probably going to be second person; follows a young man in a mental institute, having murdered his own family by accident.
Anger; a soldier lies bleeding out on a hostile world, betrayed and surrounded by dead comrades. He curses the people that betrayed him, the government that sent him to war, basically everything but himself and his dead friends.
Bargaining; a brilliant scientist, made cripple by a catastrophic magical event works to bring his daughter(killed in the same catastrophe) back to life while working around his own handicap.
Depression; an old woman is given a terminal diagnosis, and contemplates the life she's lived.
Acceptance; an immortal prophet/demi-god/singer prays to a shrine of dead lover, while preparing for their first concert since this lovers death.
Thoughts, advice?

So, I found a local writers group which meets once a month not far from my home. Think I might drop in on their next meet, see how that goes.
I'm not even sure when the next meeting is and I'm already nervous.

So, the Writer's Group turned out to be a bust.
I went to the meeting place a little early to scope it out. About five minutes before it was supposed to start, the older gentleman with crazy unwashed hair comes in carrying a sign for the group, orders a coffee an sits down. Not a great sign. He's carrying nothing with him except his iPad and the sign, and he chose to sit at one of the two person tables, to me a pretty clear indication that he wasn't expecting any more than one other person to show up. Especially since there were larger tables available.
So, I figured I'd quietly hang out to see if anyone else joined him. Thirty minutes later he was still alone. I suppose I -could- have approached him and introduced myself, but it didn't seem worth it. Like, I was expecting a -group- of people... At least two. I didn't go down there to meet one rando for coffee and talk to this complete stranger for two hours. Especially since he didn't have anything writing realted with him. If just one other person had showed I'd have joined in... But, meh.

I feel sad for that old man now, but I probably would have done the same.

I feel sad for that old man now, but I probably would have done the same. I mean, if he had like a bag, or a note pad, or a pen, or even if he had sat at a table with room for more than one other person, I probably would have hello. Dude looked fully sure that he was going to be by himself, like I had stuff with me, if I'd sat down it would have just been the two of us talking about my stuff until it got awkward enough for me to leave.

if I'd sat down it would have just been the two of us talking about my stuff until it got awkward enough for me to leave. This is why I don't go to Writer's Groups. No one else brings their stuff, so I usually just end up talking about my shit and feel judged for being the only person in the room who writes genre fiction. EDIT: In other news, I was revisiting an old novel idea I had back in high school and decided to search for my old notes to compare. Luckily enough I found them. In summary: The Last Dragon ClassicA Prince(ss) who has been held in an old fortress after his/her parents died is liberated by two loyal guards. Ends up being kidnapped by a dragon. Dragons can speak and are intelligent, and (s)he manage's to convince it to take her/him to him/her's original destination. What follows is a story as they team up to take down his/her's evil incestuous cousins, who have usurped control of the throne. Part One of Three. And now,New The Last DragonA young person, while exploring in the mountains near their home, finds a dragon. While it gives a warning growl it does not move to harm or eat our protagonist. Seeing that it is hurt, they hunt some deer to present as an offering of peace(dragons still being somewhat intelligent, but I changed it so they no longer really speak like your average being would, rather it's more Chewbacca-esque) while they tend to the wound. The local tyrant seeks out this dragon, the last dragon, so that he may go down in history as the first person in over a hundred years to have killed one. The dragon escapes with the child, and together they seek out the resistance against this tyrant, led by the rightful heir to the previous king. Story mostly involves the protagonist gaining the confidence to become their own person while out on an adventure with a flying fire breathing lizard, with the revolution being background fluff. Just felt it was interesting to see it go from 'crappy pulp/YA adventure' to 'probably still YA fantastical indie movie'
