I feel like I'm really going to be testing my resolve to let the story be its natural lenght and not cut it artifically short. Hmm.

If length is something you're concerned with, you might put extra care into deciding whether or not the story's natural length is necessarily as long as you think it is. Like I mentioned about your King of the Hill story, it felt like you rushed the ending because you wrote a much longer story and cut it short. But if you'd shifted the focus away from the confrontation with Duncan and made the story about Jack and Ime, you could have told a stronger story in an even smaller space.

Yeah, this is something I'm considering. Heists have that three act structure to them where you can just completely drop an act (the planning stage), for instance. And I think I could probably do that. ... but I don't really want to. And I don't think the story would be improved by doing so, in fact I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be. I'll have to ponder.

So how are people going for the final round? Reffy, have you got anything yet for slipstream (if nothing else, the wikipedia page is quite useful). Silver, any ideas yet?
I'm going to start writing today after work.

Got a great idea, I'm hoping that I at least have one good story for this competition.

I'm going to start writing today after work. I've got ideas, I just need to write. I really want to finish the story I've started, but I also want to write something unrelated as that feels a little like cheating. Think I'll probably just wrap it up though, since I suspect that if I don't I'll never get around to doing it.

Also, you won't have it hanging over your head if you make it to the semi-final and final.

Ugh... Only 675 words tonight. And a lot of that was re-write. Shouldn't have slowed my roll.

Ohgod. I started writing an accent and now I can't stop, but it's so annoying.

2,700 words. I think it'll actually still end up being sub-5,000, which is always nice for the judge, I think. At the moment, I'm still feeling really good with how it's turning out.
