Thank you Agro and point taken Zovo I'm not going to go over-board, and this is way out of my comfort zone (Fantasy and clean,) but the idea works for Gothic Fiction and needs an adult-context.

I distinctly remember scoffing when I read that FoG had a rule saying you can't have too graphic pieces. Do they? How do you even enforce that? Nice piece blah-de-blah, unfortunately I find slippers offensive. Deleting now.

I would say do whatever is appropriate for the story, some times not going far enough is just as bad, if not worse than going to far. However, bear in mind that I am not above lowering scores for bad taste. Oh yes, this will be one of the risk.

So I imagine they've got someone on full time watch dog duty, making sure that everything is PG-rated and writing down word counts.

I spent a little time over at FOG a while back and while I can honestly say that they seem like pretty nice people, people who make exagerated efforts to be especially cordial and polite, they do seem to take themselves a little too seriously. The whole environment really just seemed oppressive, in a way. As though everyone would be sickeningly sweet to your face, but step out of line (or what they consider to be out of line) and the hammer would come down hard. ut really, the color scheme and the navigation of the site is what drove me away. Grey on black. . . who came up with that?

Yeah, I hung around there for a little while but they're kind of creepy, honestly. I keep expecting them to make a human sacrifice to their pagan gods. Plus, there's an anti-Obama thread that I found pretty hilarious.

I haven't really seen people getting "told off" for not following the rule. However, I have seen them "complaining" about it. Instances were people feel they shouldn't need a set amount, or where it isn't enough because people aren't following it.
My opinion: I don't think you need such rules. If you are on an RP-site with the intentions of RP-ing then it should be pretty obvious that you should write well (or to the best of your ability.) No one-liners.
Not much has been going on over there since New Years anyways. They need something to spruce it up again, like assignments, or challenges, or competitions. Currently its dead in the water.
What Zovo said made me laugh. They are very, very friendly, perhaps too friendly. Hardly any criticism over there, or arguing. Possibly why it is so quiet now. I've been in their chat sometimes and it's honestly worrying because nobody is throwing insults. They are just talking about making replies, or shopping for gothic/elven/pretty jewelry/clothes.
Man - I love AWR :] Debates, criticism, arguments, feuds, friends, championships, assignments, creative-bunch! Everything from art, to poetry, to writing, to RPs.
FOG is nice and all but there really is no place like home! :]

It had a specific rule: No criticism allowed. What kind of shit is that? You will never, ever, learn as a writer unless you get criticism. Unless someone says, "You know what? That wasn't as good as it should have been. And I think your problems are thus:". Sure it may start a debate from time to time, but damn is it a good learning tool!

Plus, there's an anti-Obama thread that I found pretty hilarious. That and a thread with people saying how much they enjoy Twilight and another saying that villains are dying out because no one plays pointless evil anymore, they all have complicated morals makes it the Anti-AWR.

I just can't trust anyone who is that nice. . . especially on the internet. Nobody is that nice. Makes me think they're up to something.

Creativity stems from passion. If you have a community who avoids all argument or criticism, who'd rather brush problems and emotions aside rather than deal with them, then they must be devoid of the kind of passion you need to harness. And when you hobble them with a bunch of extra rules meant to enforce the above .... well that's just silly.

I'm deathly afraid of their ability to be continually nice and politically correct . . .

- Must be between 500-5000 words. What happens if its a bit over? Can these stories be slightly over if necessary? I'm not meaning adding a couple of thousand words extra, just a hundred or so. Or is it breaking the rules...? :S

My personal stance to rule breaking remains: "Go ahead and do it if it's unavoidable, but make sure the piece is really good because it's going to cost you points."
