So. . . what would be a better world?
A parrell universe based off early 20th century Europe, where Cefran (France) and Inbrita (Britain), are semi-corrupt autocracies that used to be long-time benevolent democracies, Iaruss (Russia) is a beneveolent democracy of highly moralistic pacifists, Nygerma (you get the idea, Germany) was never unified, and was therfore taken over by the gleaming, technolgically advanced Ryaustr-Iahung Empire, along with the rest of central Eporue (Europe, all the continents' names would simply be reversed in the world, since Peeuro and Thnor Caameri sound silly)?
Or to just completely make up a new world?
The former gives me some annoying restrictions, and would force me to research quite a bit to get the historical reversals correct, but would be pretty cool.
The latter would be fun to do, but hard to pull off, because it just might not appeal to readers as much unless I do a really good job.
So. . . yeah.
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions? Kick in the pants? Ice cream inside liquid jazz? Liquid jazz inside ice cream? What?

I'd say, instead of renaming everything and adding more than politics change, unless you're going to make your own world, keep the names the same, and go with the tried and true alternate timeline usage: A few details are different, or missing, and it affects everything in this way.
Changing the names like that, IMO, is just silly.

Hm, I guess it is a bit silly. . . and I always wanted to write about a flying city. . . . . . Created world it is, then.

I had an idea a while back for a flying -forest-. Not an artificial one, either. In the upper atmosphere of a gas giant there'd be plankton and coral polyps that rode the breeze. Over time they would start to accumulate and slowly evolve ways of keeping more complex structures airborne. Broad leaves would serve as wings, gas bladders filled with helium would become balloons, and so on. In very rare circumstances you'd get really large accumulations of the plants with correspondingly larger flight mechanisms. They'd form a tough, tightly-woven lower canopy to prevent air from getting through and catch updrafts. People could walk on this layer. Then there'd be a more loose, upper canopy to catch sunlight. The whole thing would be one huge plant colony, like a flying Great Barrier Reef.
Fairly implausible from a biology standpoint but also very cool.

Ugh. Horror. Why did I have to choose horror?
Whatever, might as well continue down this path. See what I can do with it. Always nice to try something new.

Why couldn't I have just stuck with easy fantasy and Bel-Gonows? Why did it have to be Alonzo? Sex/adult scenes are difficult to write! >.<

And as Sensar pointed out, yes, they're hard to write well. And if you manage to do so, all the more reason to give yourself a pat on the back. Edit: Also, awesome theme song.

So, I have an amazing idea for a Warhammer 40k story. . .
. . . is there still time? Or should I just continue with my old story?
Because the story I have now is a shit storm. I'm all over the place with characters, and plots, and interludes. It's just. . . porked over. It's not impossible to pick up the pieces, but if I'm finishing NaNo this year, I have to decide - today - whether I'm struggling on, or starting over with something more well-planned. School's a bitch, my time is limited, and my parents don't like seeing D's.
So yeah.
Steampunky story in self-created world I've already written out, or a fan fic I've got a coherent plan for?
