simbon.madpage.com/Fog/Just paste in your novel. The number is based on a series of standards and supposedly gives you the schooling requirement to read the pasted text. Most on NaNo range from 4 (US 5th grade education, assuming kindergarden) to 9 (10th, respectively). There are no real pros or cons of higher or lower numbers. You don't want a novel that's overly-simple, yet you obvious want it to be readable. So there's no "good" score or "bad" score. Mine:

Tested a few novels I had on my computer in text files:
The first chapter of Moby Dick got a 10.80.
The first three chapters of A Song of Ice and Fire got 5.823.
Chapter one of The Fellowship of the Ring got 7.183.

So, you're somewhere between Fellowship of the Ring, and Moby Dick. . . Least I know it won't be a boring read.

That's more along the lines of what I meant. Part of what makes reading entertaining for me is the word usage and sentence structure and the more mechanical bits; not just the story. So, looking at just the mechanical bits, it's looks promising.

If you compare your scores and mine, you can see that the big difference came in 3+ syllable words. Otherwise, they were damn close.

Fingers crossed I put it all in the right place - lulz! We should put the Twilight-dribble through it ... but it'd probably break. Does it have a pre-school option?

Twilight excerpt got 7.641.
It's mechanical, not a matter of the writing itself. It doesn't judge quality.

6.540 Punctuation: 3862 Words: 40156 3+ syllable words: 2390 >.> You didn't have as few 3+ syllable words as Ref but had a -lot- more punctuation than either of us. That means generally simpler, shorter sentences.
